Finance Business Partner - Charity Sector

Location: Hybrid (Cardiff)

Salary: £50,000 FTE

The Role:

As Finance Business Partner, you will work closely with operational teams, project leads, and senior management to provide insightful financial analysis, build budgets, and support strategic decision-making. This is more than just a reporting role you'll influence real change and help translate financial information into actionable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted financial advisor to non-finance stakeholders across programmes and departments
  • Deliver monthly management accounts, budget monitoring, and variance analysis
  • Lead the annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting cycles for designated business areas
  • Provide financial input on grant-funded projects, tenders, and funding proposals
  • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of restricted vs unrestricted funds
  • Partner with the fundraising and operations teams to assess ROI and cost-effectiveness
  • Support year-end accounts and statutory reporting in collaboration with the wider finance team
  • Promote financial understanding across the organisation through coaching and collaboration

Candidate Profile:

We're looking for a candidate with both technical credibility and interpersonal finesse someone who can build strong relationships across the organisation while maintaining financial rigour.

Essential:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Previous experience in a business partnering, FP&A or management accounting role
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills; confident working with large data sets
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to explain complex financial issues clearly
  • A proactive, solution-focused mindset with a collaborative approach

Desirable:

  • Experience in the charity or not-for-profit sector
  • Familiarity with charity SORP and fund accounting
  • Knowledge of grant compliance and reporting (e.g., UK government, trusts, or institutional donors)
