Robert Half are partnering with a high-growth SME lender in the fin-tech industry to appoint a Financial Controller. This role is based in the City of London, with a hybrid working model (3 days in the office).
Operating within the fin-tech industry, the business specialises in lending, with a straightforward but commercially driven model. The Financial Controller will play a key role in partnering with the business on commercial decision-making, particularly around risk, return, and capital allocation.
Candidate Profile
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with a strong academic background
- Approx. 8-10 years' experience within the fin-tech industry, ideally with lending exposure
- Strong FP&A capability with advanced financial modelling skills
- Proven ability to operate both hands-on and strategically
- Experience improving processes, systems, and controls within a growing business
The Role
This is a hands-on Financial Controller position suited to someone who can operate both strategically and at a detailed level. You will lead the development of a best-in-class FP&A function, bringing structure, automation, and insight to finance within a scaling fin-tech environment in the City of London.
The successful candidate will professionalise the finance function, build complex models, improve reporting processes, and act as a true business partner across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a commercial partner to senior leadership, investors, and key stakeholders
- Confidently challenge and support strategic decisions
- Contribute to shaping and articulating business strategy
- FP&A & Commercial Modelling
- Build and own complex financial models, including revenue forecasting and scenario analysis
- Establish FP&A processes from the ground up (budgeting, forecasting, KPI tracking)
- Translate lending and commercial activity into actionable financial insights
- Finance Operations & Reporting
- Lead and develop a high-performing finance team
- Own month-end close and management reporting processes
- Improve accuracy, speed, and efficiency of reporting
- Transition manual, spreadsheet-heavy processes into scalable systems
- Oversee revenue recognition and reporting integrity
- Systems & Process Improvement
- Drive automation across finance processes
- Work closely with Xero and internal loan management systems
- Play a key role in future ERP implementation
- Continuously identify improvements to support business growth
