Are you a recent Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business graduate looking for your first opportunity in finance?

We are working with a successful and growing business based in Theale, Reading. Seeking a bright, enthusiastic Graduate Finance Assistant to join its Finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has the academic grounding and personality to build a long-term career in finance, but is now looking for the practical experience to go with it.

You don't need to know everything already. Training will be provided, and the role is designed to give you exposure to a broad range of finance activities while you develop your technical skills and confidence.

What will you be doing?

You'll initially take responsibility for a range of billing and sales ledger activities, learning how transactions move through the business and ensuring everything is accurate and completed on time.

As you develop, you'll gain exposure to:

  • Raising and processing sales invoices
  • Billing and sales ledger administration
  • Revenue reconciliations
  • Checking and maintaining financial records
  • Payment runs
  • Contractor and customer billing
  • General ledger activity
  • Month-end processes
  • Financial reporting
  • Excel and finance systems
  • Supporting process and system improvements

You'll work closely with colleagues across the business, so this is a great role for someone who enjoys working with people as well as numbers.

Why this is a great first finance job

This isn't a role where you'll be expected to sit quietly processing invoices all day.

You'll be joining an established Finance team where you can learn from experienced colleagues, ask questions and gradually take on more responsibility.

The business has successfully developed graduates previously, with people progressing significantly within their first year. You'll have a strong peer group around you and the opportunity to build your career alongside them.

The company is also investing in its finance infrastructure, including new finance and CRM systems, giving you the opportunity to develop your systems knowledge from an early stage.

What we're looking for

We're interested in graduates who can demonstrate:

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business or a related subject
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good Excel skills
  • A willingness to learn
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A positive, enthusiastic attitude
  • The ability to work at pace and manage competing priorities
  • A genuine interest in building a career in finance

Previous finance experience is helpful but not essential. If you've completed an internship, placement, part-time finance role or have relevant experience from university, we'd love to hear from you.

Professional development

This is a role where your development matters.

You'll receive structured training and exposure to different areas of finance, with the opportunity to continue studying towards an accounting qualification as your career progresses.

The long-term aim is to develop you into a well-rounded finance professional rather than simply keep you focused on transactional tasks.

The person we're looking for

Above all, we're looking for someone who is bright, personable and hungry to learn.

If you're the sort of graduate who wants to understand why something works rather than simply being told what buttons to press, enjoys working with people and wants to build a genuine career in finance, this could be an excellent first step.
