We're working with an established and successful construction distribution business based in Bridgend that is looking to appoint an Accounts Assistant to join its finance function.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Accounts Assistant or Finance Assistant looking for a varied role within a busy, commercially focused business. You'll gain exposure across a broad range of finance activities, work closely with experienced colleagues and have the opportunity to develop your accounting knowledge and progress your career.
The role offers hybrid working, combining time in the Bridgend office with the flexibility of working from home.
The Role
As an Accounts Assistant, you'll provide essential support across the day-to-day finance function, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and financial records are maintained to a high standard.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Processing purchase and sales invoices
- Managing and maintaining purchase and sales ledger accounts
- Matching invoices to purchase orders and delivery documentation
- Processing payments and assisting with supplier statement reconciliations
- Allocating and posting customer receipts
- Carrying out regular bank reconciliations
- Assisting with credit control and resolving customer queries
- Supporting month-end processes
- Posting journals and assisting with account reconciliations
- Maintaining accurate financial records
- Responding to internal and external finance queries
- Assisting with VAT and other routine finance requirements
- Supporting the wider finance team with reporting and ad hoc projects
- Identifying opportunities to improve finance processes and controls
About You
We're looking for someone who is organised, detail-focused and keen to develop their career in finance.
You may already be working as an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, Accounts Administrator or in a similar position and be looking for your next opportunity.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Previous experience within an accounts or finance environment
- A good understanding of basic accounting principles
- Experience with purchase ledger, sales ledger or reconciliations
- Good Excel skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organisation and time-management skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment
- Good communication skills and a professional approach
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
AAT study or qualification would be advantageous, although relevant practical experience will be considered.
Experience within construction, distribution, wholesale or another fast-paced commercial environment would also be beneficial.
