We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to lead and deliver a 3-18 pathway to provide seamless, tailored support for learners with identified needs across the College’s Nursery, Junior School and Senior School. The successful applicant will lead and manage a team to ensure high quality provision for pupils with additional needs, with a focus on pedagogy, target setting and monitoring of progress. The role will have responsibility for developing and delivering co-curricular opportunities for pupils who require additional support in developing personal confidence, social skills and strategies for developing resilience.

The successful applicant will play an important role in the admissions process, particularly at key transition points. This will include liaising with the relevant Deputy Head and the Admissions team to ensure that pupils with additional needs can access the process. This position will report to two members of the Joint Senior Leadership Team (Junior and Senior School), as appropriate, and will be expected to present to the College Executive Team, and the Education Committee of the Board of Governors. An annual update for the Senior Leadership Team on pupil progress, using robust tracking data, will be an expectation of this role.

Key tasks of the position include:

  • Departmental Leader
    • Setting the strategic direction, priorities and ethos of the department;
    • Line Management and deployment of staff in the department.
  • Pupil Support
    • Overseeing all aspects of additional support needs provision for pupils as outlined in the Education (Additional Support for Learning) Act (Scotland) 2004;
    • Maintaining up to date accessible records outlining pupil needs and recommended strategies;
    • Providing information, advice and support to staff regarding both additional support provision and the identification of the most effective teaching approaches for ASN pupils.
  • Working in Partnership
    • Leading an ASL Professional Pathway as part of career long professional learning;
    • Liaising with external agencies, such as Community Child Health, CAMHS and Educational Psychologies, as appropriate;
    • Working with parents to ensure that support is effective and keeping parents informed about their child’s progress through regular meetings, annual reviews and reports.

The successful applicant should be fully qualified and GTCS registered, have extensive experience of providing specialised support for pupils with additional support needs, possess excellent communication and organisational skills, and be able to monitor and adapt teaching and learning to meet the additional support needs of pupils.

Salary will be based on the national SNCT scale, together with the Robert Gordon’s Allowance above SNCT scale.
