Your role will be to provide University–wide support and deliver on all aspects of website content related to RGU’s research portfolio by supporting our academics to strategically produce compelling external-facing content for a range of audiences that evidences our research impact and infrastructure.

This role is offered on a 3-year fixed-term basis. RESPONSIBLE TO: Senior Web Editor

RESPONSIBLE FOR: No supervisory responsibility

PURPOSE OF POST: To help shine a light on the world-leading and internationally excellent research carried out at RGU.

We are undertaking a restructure and redesign of the Research section of the University website, and the post holder will provide support with website content, categorization of content and ongoing research. They will also assist the web team with a range of tasks related to the website including focus groups, surveys, user testing and desk research, completing simple content changes and categorization of content.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Content creation, editing and approval
  • Help write or produce original content utilising excellent written and oral communications skills and having a high attention to detail.
  • Ensure the brand, tone of voice and accessibility guidelines are applied effectively across the website.
  • Fulfil content tasks within defined workflows, delivering to tight deadlines or suggesting amendments to assist with the efficient production of content across the wider team.
  • Conduct content audits to identify gaps and redundancies in the site content.
  • Support the development of a new information architecture and the structuring and indexing of research content.
  • Help create and maintain content schedules for people to produce or update research content.
  • Assist in the production of sitemaps or visualisations to help staff understand the structure and function of the website.

Customer service and quality assurance

  • Work closely with colleagues across the University to ensure all digital communications are high quality and appropriate for the target audience.
  • Provide front line support for users and contributors, including identifying levels of priority when dealing with requests and displaying strong negotiation skills, and escalating to appropriate management where necessary.
  • Collaborate on a daily basis with colleagues across External Affairs and the Research Office to ensure the successful delivery of website projects.

Research and user experience/testing

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of a digital Research showcase.
  • Contribute to improving user experience on the University’s website, including content structure, user testing, content audits and producing website analytics.
  • Support the web team to design and deliver user testing to determine the direction of key research pages on the University’s website.
  • Support the organisation of design sprints and help report on the findings.

Additional tasks

  • Undertake evaluation of web pages, using GA4 and other metrics as instructed by management.
  • Make a positive contribution to the work of the Research Office.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by the line manager.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications and Professional Memberships: First Degree in either Marketing, Computing or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and skills: Understanding of web and digital analytics. Understanding of user experience and SEO best practice. Awareness of web and digital content trends. Able to adapt content for mobile-first and multi-platform environments. Outstanding time management and organisational skills. Excellent communication and writing skills – including good spelling and grammar. Excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience: Demonstrable experience of working in a web editorial or digital marketing and communications role. Experience of planning and organising digital content for communications and marketing purposes. Experience of supporting successful coordination of projects. Experience of using web technologies such as Content Management Systems (CMS) in a professional environment. Experience of Microsoft 365 software including Excel, Word, and Forms.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications and Professional Memberships: Qualifications and/or membership of CIM IDM or similar.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of HTML, CSS and Java script. Understanding of regulations relating to copyright, digital accessibility and GDPR.
  • Experience: Experience of working within the higher education sector or within a research environment. Experience of using Joomla CMS, plugins and extensions. Experience of using Google Analytics 4. Experience of software used for content creation such as Adobe Photoshop, Spark or Canva.
