Overview
Due to the retirement of the current postholder, an experienced Senior Science Technician is required to join our busy Science Department.
The successful candidate will supervise a team of technicians, provide technical support to pupils and staff across all three school sites, and oversee the day‑to‑day running of the school laboratories.
The post is not site specific; the successful candidate will work across all three sites.
Responsibilities
- Line‑manage and supervise eight Science Technicians across all three sites.
- Oversee the organisation and day‑to‑day running of school laboratories.
- Assist with the provision of ongoing support and training for technicians, including health and safety.
- Set up, prepare and clear materials, equipment and chemicals for practical lessons.
- Assist teaching staff with demonstration lessons, practical lessons, exam classes and assessments.
- Provide technical support for pupils and staff, ensuring safe use of materials, equipment and chemicals.
- Clean equipment and work areas as necessary.
- Work in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
- Ensure laboratories are adequately stocked.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience of working within an educational environment.
- Relevant Physics or Chemistry qualifications desirable.
- Good levels of literacy and numeracy.
- High standard of verbal and written communication skills when dealing with colleagues, pupils, parents and visitors.
- Ability to work effectively and professionally as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to all school policies.
- Experience of motivating and supervising a team.
- Organised and methodical, with attention to detail, under the supervision of the Director of Science/School Site Subject Leaders.
