As a Senior Design Engineer, you will contribute to early‑stage civil and structural design across a range of rail, highways, energy and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects. This includes the design of operational infrastructure such as bridges, stations and heavy civils, ensuring integration and coordination with multiple engineering disciplines to deliver cohesive and efficient project solutions. You will also support the inspection, strengthening design, and replacement design of operational infrastructure such as bridges, requiring close coordination with key stakeholders such as Network Rail and TfL.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead client liaison and support business development
- Coordinate project delivery, resources, and design documentation
- Develop engineering solutions and lead design philosophy
- Produce preliminary and detailed designs for temporary and permanent works
- Carry out design checking, technical reporting and subcontractor coordination
- Develop erection schemes and specialist engineering methodologies
- Support Associates and Associate Directors with resource planning, technical delivery, and project coordination
- Support cost control, fee proposals, and project variations
- Conduct site inspections and provide technical support to site teams
- Ensure temporary works are designed, checked and constructed safely
- Mentor junior engineers and support team development
- Ensure compliance with Quality, Health & Safety and RBG procedures
Qualifications
- A degree in Structural Engineering or Civil & Structural Engineering with a strong interest in structural design.
- Ideally Chartered with the ICE, IStructE or an internationally recognised equivalent, or very close to achieving Chartership.
- Flexibility and initiative to respond effectively to challenging situations.
- Ability to take on responsibility appropriate to your level of capability.
- Familiarity with Eurocodes, DMRB and Network Rail design and assessment standards.
- Familiarity with Highways, Network Rail and TfL assurance processes (desirable).
- Proficiency in 3D structural design software such as LUSAS, MIDAS, Strand7 or similar tools.
