About the Role
As a Job Coach you will ensure that learners with High Needs and young people with Education Health and Care Plans (EHC Plans), whom are studying on the Pre & Supported Internship Programmes, are supported whilst out on placement with an employer. You will support young people with EHC Plans to transition and progress onto sustained and paid employment.
You will share a strong belief in young people’s ability and right to work. You will facilitate the substantial work placement element of the structured work-based study programme by providing in-work instruction and support in the employer’s setting.
You will support young people with EHC Plans to develop their independent travel skills and provide in-work instruction and support that tapers off, as appropriate, as the supported intern becomes familiar with their job role and real job conditions such as timekeeping, health & safety, dress code etc.
You will maintain administrative tasks such as:
- Record keeping
- Progress reviews
- Tracking of learner skills development
- Capturing of employer/supervisor feedback
You will ensure that young people with EHC Plans:
- Develop the skills valued by employers
- Demonstrate their value in the workplace
- Develop confidence in their own abilities to perform successfully at work
You will ensure that all parties involved in placements, employers, curriculum staff and learners, have clear expectations of what is required of them by following the policy and processes in place. This is a truly rewarding role, where the support you offer can make a real difference to the future success of our learners, enabling them to have the best opportunities to lead independent and fulfilled lives.
You will have experience in supporting young people/vulnerable adults who have additional needs. This could be emotional and behavioural difficulties, learning difficulties and/or disabilities. You will have the ability to plan, prepare & implement support programmes/assessments as and when required and understand the process around safeguarding referrals.
You will have a high level of professionalism, good verbal and written communication skills, an ability to accurately record information in a timely manner, empathy and flexibility to meet the needs of a variety of learners & employers.
You will need to hold or be working towards your Maths and English L2 (or equivalent) to be considered for this role and be willing to work towards the Occupational Standard for Supported Employment.
