You will travel to our sites and maintain equipment predominantly around Rhyl to Aberystwyth and be based out of one of our primary maintenance locations in St. Asaph.

Your skills and experience will be used to work on our proven and cutting-edge lifesaving assets and equipment at our Lifeboat stations, Lifeguard support centres, and Contractor facilities.

About the job: We are looking for a Regional Technician to join our existing team, and we'll look to you to make your mark and really get stuck in. Whether you're carrying out modifications, scheduled planned maintenance, rectifying emergency breakdowns, overseeing contractors or carrying out stock control, you'll ensure our lifesaving craft, plant and machinery perform as well as our teams, so we never let anyone down, and you'll enjoy the unique satisfaction of doing something truly life changing.

About you: We operate a modern fleet of inshore and all-weather lifeboats, with integrated electronic navigation, communication, and systems management equipment. This role will primarily be focused on carrying out planned maintenance and defect rectification in this area, however, the wider fleet of assets also includes our launch and recovery and lifeguard equipment. With this varied range of equipment, you could apply skills from an equally varied background and join us from industries such as commercial, aviation, military, renewables, or motor vehicle / EV maintenance.

  • A Level 3 NVQ, City & Guilds, BTEC, HNC or higher qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Broad electrical and electronic knowledge (12/24v DC, CAN bus and control systems).
  • Experience of diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of navigation / communication / engine management electronics.
  • Experience or ability to demonstrate the use of diagnostic systems and tools.
  • Proven ability to use your initiative and operate independently.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • A time-served apprenticeship in a relevant setting or other relevant experience is considered beneficial.
  • IOSH Working Safely, Working at Height, PASMA and PA testing certification are further skills that are considered useful.

It is essential that you have a full driving licence valid in the UK.

Your rewards: At the RNLI, we're passionate about looking after our staff, so you can expect:

  • Competitive pension scheme.
  • 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Health and dental cash plan.
  • Meals and expenses paid whilst you are travelling.
  • Heavy investment in your professional development.
  • Life assurance.
  • Training and development framework.
  • Options to develop and progress within the organisation.

Your future: A career with the RNLI could take you anywhere in the UK and Ireland, and anywhere you want to go. Along the way, you will enjoy the thrill of knowing that you've helped to save lives and the fun of operating within a team with exceptional camaraderie. What we do really matters, so you can make the sea a safer place for everyone.

Safeguarding: The RNLI is committed to safeguarding; protecting a person's health, wellbeing, and human rights, enabling them to live free from harm, abuse, and neglect. We expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment and have a zero-tolerance approach. The suitability of all prospective employees and volunteers will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment. This will include relevant criminal record checks being carried out, dependent on the eligibility of the role.

Diversity at the RNLI: Our staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for 200 years. We respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within our teams, and consider it essential to help us deliver a world-class lifesaving service. We are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, we also look for applicants who share our commitment to living our RNLI values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping us work towards Our Vision: To save Every One.
