We’re looking for a new Philanthropy Development Manager to join our expanding Philanthropy Team. The Philanthropy Team supports the RNLI by working with individuals who are passionate about our work and want to make a difference through high-value gifts. This is a Hybrid role, based in Poole, focused on managing and evolving key areas of the Philanthropy team including mid-level giving, prospecting, stewardship and key processes to enable the team to meet its goals. The position requires close collaboration with internal teams such as major giving, individual giving, events, legacy, corporate and in-memory. It’s an exciting time to join the team with a new organisational five-year strategy and preparing to launch a large capital appeal in 2027.

Your role
As the Philanthropy Development Manager you will be tasked with focus on the following areas:
- Managing the Philanthropy Officers and Philanthropy Executive(s)
- Developing our prospecting capability
- Overseeing the Mid-Level Giving Programme, working alongside Individual Giving
- Working with the team and Legacy colleagues to develop wealth advisor engagement
- Ensuring we have 1st class donor stewardship in place.

You’ll be an excellent team leader and relationship builder that loves bringing people together to achieve a common goal. You must be an inclusive team player that enjoys developing areas that will benefit the broader team, and who relishes the success of others. You’ll bring enthusiasm and energy with a real passion for the RNLI’s mission. You will be self-reliant, self-motivated and resilient. You will enjoy supporting a team grow through retaining existing and identifying new high-value donors. Occasional travel with overnight stays will be required across the UK and Ireland.
To be considered as a Philanthropy Development Manager you will need:
- Experience in major giving with individuals, especially developing prospecting and stewardship, or similar
- Excellent relationship building and influencing skills with the ability to inspire and influence donors and colleagues (both written and verbally)
- Proven organisational skills, including excellent project management and budget management skills
- Ability to work well under pressure, and prioritise workload by developing clear, efficient, and logical plans
- Experience of developing improved processes and ways of working to positively impact a team’s performance.
