About RNID

RNID is the national charity supporting 18 million people in the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus. We aim to end discrimination, help people hear better and fund world‑class research to restore hearing and silence tinnitus. We work with communities and partners across industry, government, charity, education and more to change lives for the better.

Join our team

RNID is wholly remote and building a new, inclusive culture that is externally focused, curious, evidence‑based, deliberate, agile and forward‑looking. Our values—connected, insightful, curious, passionate—guide everything we do.

Tech Team’s role

The Tech Team champions inclusive technologies and connects everyone at RNID and in our communities with new technologies.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Undertake technology‑focused consultancy for corporate clients, including desk research, user experience testing, surveys, focus groups and listening tests; meet with clients, develop proposals, deliver day‑to‑day work, write reports and build strong client relationships.
  • Manage and establish new relationships with collaborators from industry, academia, R&D and the third sector.
  • Work with colleagues from our Inclusion, Employment and Health programmes and across the charity to identify, develop, deliver and disseminate strategic technology projects.
  • Represent RNID and our communities at standards bodies, industry groups and technology groups within government to influence policy and standards.
  • Support the creation of content and publications—from thought‑leadership papers and conference presentations to articles and blogs for our website.

You

You are enthusiastic but pragmatic about technology and its use to support those who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus. You have strong experience in co‑design and working with individuals who are deaf or have hearing loss or tinnitus to develop and evaluate technologies. You enjoy juggling multiple projects simultaneously and collaborating across the matrix and with other organisations. You have an existing network of academic or industry relationships that can support RNID in building collaborations and creating impact.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a science or engineering degree, preferably a master’s or PhD, or have equivalent technology industry experience. Degrees or experience in audio, acoustics, psychoacoustics, digital signal processing or machine learning are especially desirable. BSL qualifications or proficiency is a bonus but not required.

What We Can Offer You

  • 28 days annual leave plus all bank holidays
  • 2 wellbeing days for extra flexibility
  • Sickness benefit entitlement from day 1
  • Fully remote working with no core hours
  • ÂŁ26 remote working allowance every month

  • Pension scheme with 4% employer contribution
  • Employee assistance programme providing counselling sessions
  • Additional benefits for maternity, paternity and adoption
