The role
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Technical Account Manager or a Customer / Supplier Technologist looking to step up into a more strategic role. You will take ownership of the technical relationship with key retail customers, ensuring product quality, innovation, sustainability and compliance across complex supply chains. You will act as the technical bridge between customers, suppliers, growers and internal teams driving excellence from product development through to shelf.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-line technical support to customers, managing complaints, rejections and crisis situations while maintaining strong communication and protecting brand reputation.
- Strengthen customer partnerships through proactive account management, regular meetings, audits and reviews.
- Lead end-to-end product and specification management, ensuring data accuracy and alignment with commercial and seasonal targets.
- Deliver brilliant basics in daily operations while driving continuous improvement and technical innovation.
- Manage any breaches or non-compliance issues with suppliers and customers, ensuring corrective actions and prevention plans are implemented.
- Drive supplier technical excellence overseeing compliance, ethical and sustainability standards in line with ESG strategy.
- Lead quality improvement projects across the supply base to enhance yield, product consistency and shelf life.
- Support product development, pre-production trials, packaging validation and product launches.
- Provide insight into market and consumer trends to influence innovation and product direction.
- Analyse the end-to-end supply chain to support commercial, procurement and supply teams with data-driven recommendations.
- Engage with regulatory bodies and industry working groups to maintain leadership in fresh produce technical standards.
Person Specification
- Degree (or equivalent QCF Level 5-6) in Food Science, Agriculture, or related discipline.
- 3-5 years experience in a technical or technologist role within the fresh produce, chilled food or short shelf-life category.
- Strong customer-facing experience, ideally at head-office retail level.
- Experience managing suppliers, audits, and compliance within complex supply chains.
- Project management skills and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Excellent communication, data management and organisational skills.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and technical reporting systems.
Other Requirements
- Fluent English (written and spoken); additional languages advantageous.
- Willingness to travel across UK sites and overseas farms.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Commitment to health, safety, hygiene and ethical standards.
