Role Overview

We are seeking a high-performing FME Analyst to support the Local Digitisation Programme, delivering high-volume, high-accuracy spatial data automation. This role is critical to enabling scale, consistency, and quality across multiple Local Authorities, supporting both production delivery and automation uplift. The ideal candidate will have sharp, production-grade FME skills, a strong understanding of spatial data quality, and experience working under strict governance and QA controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • FME Automation for Project Delivery
  • Design, develop, and maintain production-ready FME Workbenches to support: o Spatial charge digitisation and transformation o Attribute mapping and schema alignment to data standards o Batch processing of large LA datasets
  • Build repeatable and scalable automation to support: o Multiple Local Authorities o Varying data structures and data quality
  • Optimise workflows for throughput, stability, and reliability Spatial Data Processing
  • Process and validate spatial data including: o Polygons, lines, points spatial data o Boundaries aligned to Ordnance Survey base mapping
  • Perform advanced spatial operations: o Spatial joins, overlays, snapping, buffering, topology validation
  • Handle multiple input formats: o Shapefiles, File Geodatabases, CAD, PDFs (via structured inputs), CSV/tabular data QA / QC & Data Assurance
  • Embed automated QA/QC rules within FME workflows, including: o Geometry validity checks o Attribute completeness and consistency o Duplicate and conflict detection
  • Support data audit and assurance requirements
  • Work closely with QA Leads to investigate, resolve, and prevent recurring data issues Production Support & Collaboration
  • Support daily production delivery across LA waves and batches
  • Collaborate with: o Delivery Pods o QA teams o Automation and data pipeline teams o Programme and Planning leads
  • Provide clear documentation of: o FME logic o Data rules o Exceptions and assumptions

Required Skills & Experience Essential

  • 3+ years strong hands-on experience with Safe Software FME
  • Proven track record of building complex, stable, and reusable FME Workbenches
  • Deep understanding of: o Spatial data structures and geometry types o Coordinate reference systems and transformations
  • Experience working in high-volume, production environments
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-quality mindset

Technical Skills

  • Advanced use of FME features: o Custom Transformers o Parameters and dynamic workflows o Workspace optimisation and modular design
  • Solid understanding of SQL, including: o Querying spatial databases (PostGIS / SQL Server – desirable)
  • Familiarity with: o GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) o OS base mapping principles
  • Basic Python scripting within FME (e.g. PythonCaller) is advantageous
