London | Hybrid working | Flexible pattern around core hours of 11:00β15:00
A specialist sports modelling and trading technology business is looking for a hands-on Engineering Development Team Lead to take ownership of a high-impact sports prediction platform used by traders in live markets.
This is a role for someone who enjoys technically challenging work, sharp colleagues and systems where speed, accuracy and reliability matter. The team is small today, with one highly experienced Python developer based in Poland, but the platform is entering an important build phase and there is scope for further growth over time.
The successful candidate will help productionise sports prediction models, shape the architecture around trader-facing tools, and improve the data gathering systems that support live decision-making. It is a technically hands-on leadership role, suited to someone who can get into the detail, make well-reasoned engineering decisions and work effectively with intelligent, detail-oriented problem solvers.
The role will involve:
- Leading the technical direction of the sports development platform
- Productionising sports prediction models so traders can interact with them effectively
- Building and improving microservice-based architecture
- Developing and maintaining data gathering pipelines, including scrapers
- Working closely with traders, quants, product owners and developers
- Supporting a highly experienced, technically opinionated developer within the existing team
- Improving system performance, reliability and maintainability
- Contributing directly to hands-on Python backend development
The ideal background will include:
- Experience building robust, production-grade systems
- A track record of solving complex technical problems in detail-driven environments
- Some experience leading projects, technical direction or other developers
- Good judgement around architecture, scalability and pragmatic delivery
- Confidence working with technically strong colleagues who have clear opinions
- Experience with data pipelines, scraping, microservices, trading systems or prediction models would be highly relevant
The business operates a hybrid working model in London, with home working on Wednesdays and Fridays and flexibility around core hours of 11:00β15:00. The culture is best suited to people who are highly intelligent, detail-oriented, technically curious and comfortable taking ownership of difficult problems.
For a hands-on engineering lead who wants to influence a business-critical platform from an early stage, this is a strong opportunity to combine technical depth, leadership and real commercial impact.
