About the role

Rotherham Council’s Children’s Services have continued from strength to strength, most recently being deemed “Good” by Ofsted in July 2022.

We’re currently recruiting Residential Practitioners for a new 2‑bed residential home to join our current provision. This new residential home will build on practice from our short break residential home which was judged “Outstanding” in February 2020.

The new Residential Practitioners will play an active role in delivering in‑house residential care for Rotherham’s looked‑after children.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver high‑quality care to young people, in a safe environment.
  • Promote and protect the welfare of looked‑after children throughout the local borough.
  • Prepare and carry out key work for individual children and young people.
  • Use and apply evidence‑based therapeutic and behavioural models.
  • Encourage children and young people to influence the decisions that affect them.
  • Create a joined‑up service as part of a team that centres on the child’s safety.
  • Carry out everyday activities to run a home, from mealtimes to report writing.
  • Attend meetings, training and supervision to further your knowledge and skills.
  • Create a safe and nurturing environment where a Rotherham young person can thrive.

Our offer to you

  • Local authority pension.
  • 29 days annual leave.
  • Joining our “Good” and “Outstanding” Children’s Services teams.
  • Consideration of market forces increase when negotiating your salary.
  • 4‑week induction training prior to opening our new home.
  • Bespoke training using Rotherham Family Approach. This incorporates Signs of Safety and Restorative Practice.
  • 1:1 ratio of Residential Practitioner to young person.
  • A home with a team of 2 members of staff always present.
  • Access to our in‑house therapeutic service.
  • Additional provisional support in the form of our nationally recognised Edge of Care services, and Crisis support team.
  • Committed to support your L3 qualification if not already qualified at point of hire.
  • A chance to make a real difference to a young person’s life.

About you

You will be a Level 3 registered practitioner with experience working within a residential setting. You may otherwise be an experienced caregiver with skills and experience that match our requirements. This might be experience you earned in a residential or similar setting, whether that’s statutory or non‑statutory. You’ll be a committed member of the team, seeking to inspire and support some of our most complex young people. Sometimes this will involve solo provision, supported by a deputy and registered manager. As part of the residential team you will be required to work evenings, weekends and sleep‑in shifts as needed. We’re committed to providing L3 qualification to a candidate without this existing qualification who shows experience and skills needed for the role.

We pride ourselves on the consistently high standards of care provided across Children’s and Young People’s Services, which has led to our “Good” Ofsted rating in 2022. We’re driven to centring provision around the needs of Rotherham’s young people, and this drive extends to our residential teams.

We have a commitment to an ethos of excellence, integrity, trust and transparency. By joining our team, you too will advocate for and live these values.

Rotherham and the wider South Yorkshire region is a great place to live. We’re in the heart of beautiful countryside, and a short distance from several bustling towns and cities. Rotherham is easy to reach if commuting from Sheffield, Leeds or Doncaster.
