RM Recruit are working in partnership with a fantastic organisation who are looking to appoint an experienced Interim Financial Accountant on an initial six-month basis.
There is scope for this role to be extended and offered on a permanent basis.
This presents an excellent opportunity for a technically strong finance professional to join an established finance team at an important time, providing additional financial accounting support while the organisation works through its current audit and year-end requirements.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the financial accounts are accurate, robust and audit-ready, whilst also strengthening processes and supporting the development of the wider finance team.
Working closely with the existing finance function and external accountants/auditors, you will take ownership of key financial accounting activities for the 2026/27 financial year.
A key focus will be addressing outstanding accounting matters, implementing recommendations arising from the audit process and ensuring the organisation is in a strong position for future audits.
You will also work alongside two members of the finance accounting team, providing guidance, support and coaching where required.
Main duties include
- Take responsibility for core financial accounting activities across the organisation.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of accurate financial accounts for 2026/27.
- Complete detailed balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Support the organisation through its current audit process, working closely with the existing audit lead and external accountants.
- Review and address outstanding audit points and implement agreed recommendations.
- Ensure appropriate financial controls and accounting processes are operating effectively.
- Prepare and review VAT returns and ensure relevant compliance requirements are met.
- Provide technical accounting advice and support to colleagues within the finance team.
- Work closely with existing finance staff to improve knowledge, processes and consistency.
- Provide coaching and on-the-job training where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial accounting processes and reporting.
- Assist with year-end and other statutory financial accounting requirements.
- Ensure financial information is accurate, timely and appropriately supported.
- Help establish robust processes that will provide a strong foundation for the future finance function.
We are looking for a technically strong Financial Accountant who is comfortable working in a hands-on environment and can quickly understand existing processes, identify issues and put practical solutions in place.
You will ideally be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, although strong QBE candidates with significant relevant experience will also be considered.
You will also have strong financial accounting experience and possess excellent balance sheet reconciliation skills.
A good understanding of VAT and financial compliance and a strong attention to detail and a methodical approach will hold you in good stead.
This is a 6-month interim opportunity initially, with the potential for the assignment to be extended and a genuine opportunity for the successful candidate to move into a permanent position.
The organisation can offer flexibility around working hours, provided the required work is delivered, and the role will be based two days per week.
