About Our Client:
R&M Electrical Group is an established global distributor of electrical products and engineered solutions. Founded in Southampton in 1987, the business now employs more than 330 people across over 24 locations worldwide and supports customers operating in a diverse range of industrial and commercial markets. As part of the Niedax Group, R&M combines an experienced local team with extensive international reach, trusted manufacturer partnerships and access to a broad portfolio of electrical products and supply-chain solutions.
The company has built its reputation on providing technically informed, tailored solutions that help customers reduce costs, improve efficiency and manage complex projects. Its capabilities include major project delivery, export management, MRO supply contracts, offsite fabrication and value-added engineered solutions.
Job Description:
This is a significant opportunity for someone who wants more than a conventional account-management position. You will be given the platform to shape a growing business area, develop its route-to-market strategy and establish R&M as a recognised solutions provider within the Busway and Busbar sector.
Working with customers, consultants, contractors, project teams, manufacturers and internal stakeholders, you will take responsibility for identifying opportunities, developing specifications and converting technically complex projects into profitable business.
The position requires a combination of technical understanding, commercial judgement and proactive business development. You should be comfortable opening doors at senior level, discussing project requirements with technical decision-makers and maintaining ownership throughout a long and consultative sales cycle.
As Technical Sales Manager, you will:
- Develop and implement a clear commercial strategy for the Busway and Busbar product offering across the UK and selected European markets.
- Build a strong pipeline of project and specification-led opportunities across relevant industrial, commercial and infrastructure sectors.
- Identify and engage with electrical contractors, M&E contractors, consultants, engineers, EPC organisations, panel builders, end users and project owners.
- Establish relationships with key technical and commercial decision-makers, from design and specification through to procurement and project delivery.
- Promote the technical and commercial benefits of Busway and Busbar solutions as an alternative to traditional cable-based power distribution.
- Support customers in selecting suitable systems based on factors including current rating, configuration, installation environment, project timescale and future expansion requirements.
- Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations and commercial proposals to customers and project stakeholders.
- Work with consultants and design engineers to influence specifications at the earliest possible stage of a project.
- Manage opportunities through the complete sales lifecycle, including prospecting, qualification, technical engagement, quotation, negotiation and order conversion.
- Coordinate with manufacturers, suppliers and internal technical teams to produce accurate and competitive system proposals.
- Work closely with R&M's projects, export, commercial, engineering and supply-chain teams to ensure a smooth transition from sale to delivery.
- Negotiate commercial agreements while protecting margin, controlling risk and maintaining a strong value proposition.
- Monitor competitor activity, market pricing, technological developments and emerging opportunities within the Busway and Busbar market.
- Provide accurate pipeline information, sales forecasts and market intelligence to the senior management team.
- Represent the business at customer meetings, trade events, exhibitions and industry networking opportunities across the UK and Europe.
- Help develop the wider commercial proposition, including marketing content, technical literature, supplier relationships and potential stock or project-support requirements.
- Become the internal subject-matter expert for Busway and Busbar systems, sharing knowledge with colleagues and helping the wider sales team recognise suitable opportunities.
The Successful Applicant:
This opportunity would suit a commercially driven technical sales professional who understands how power-distribution projects are specified, sold and delivered.
You are likely to have:
- Previous experience selling Busway, Busbar, Busbar Trunking Systems or closely related low-voltage power-distribution solutions.
- Preferably a strong understanding of electrical distribution within industrial, commercial, mission-critical or infrastructure environments.
- Experience working with electrical contractors, M&E contractors, consultants, EPCs, system integrators, distributors or end users.
- The ability to understand technical drawings, specifications, schedules and project documentation.
- A consultative sales approach, with the confidence to discuss both technical and commercial requirements.
- A proven track record of developing new business and converting high-value, project-led opportunities.
- Experience managing extended sales cycles involving multiple technical and commercial stakeholders.
- Strong presentation, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to create structure and momentum within a developing product area.
- A high level of personal accountability, organisation and commercial awareness.
- The confidence to operate independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues across sales, engineering, projects, procurement and operations.
- A willingness to travel regularly throughout the UK and, where required, into Europe.
- A relevant electrical or engineering qualification, although strong industry experience may be equally valuable.
What Will Make You Successful?
The successful person will be someone who combines technical credibility with a genuine new-business mentality. Success in this position will not come solely from managing existing accounts. You will need to actively create opportunities, build market awareness and develop relationships in areas where R&M has the capability to grow.
You should enjoy the challenge of taking a proposition to market, establishing a network and becoming recognised as a trusted technical partner. In return, you will have the opportunity to influence the direction of the division and play a central role in its long-term success.
Why Join?
- Ownership and influence: Take responsibility for developing a strategically important product offering rather than inheriting a narrowly defined territory.
- International scope: Build relationships and secure opportunities across both the UK and European markets.
- Established platform: Benefit from R&M's existing customer relationships, international locations, supply-chain capabilities and technical expertise.
- Technical environment: Work within a business that understands complex electrical products, engineered solutions and major project delivery.
- Visible impact: Your performance will directly influence the growth and market position of the Busway and Busbar proposition.
- Career potential: As the offering develops, there is scope for the role to grow in responsibility, commercial value and strategic importance.
- Collaborative support: Work alongside experienced colleagues across projects, exports, engineering, procurement and supply-chain management.
- Strong market proposition: Represent an established electrical group focused on providing customers with tailored solutions that are better, smarter and safer.
What's on Offer:
A competitive package will be offered, with full details discussed during the recruitment process. The position will require regular UK travel and occasional European travel, so a full UK driving licence will be essential.
