Career Progression: Equity Partnership progression opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Property Solicitor to join an established and forward-thinking law firm in Taunton. This is an opportunity for an ambitious, commercially minded lawyer who is looking for more than simply another fee-earning position. The firm offers considerable autonomy, a refreshingly flexible approach to working life and a genuine opportunity to develop your own practice, with a realistic pathway to Equity Partnership in the coming years for the right individual.

The Opportunity

  • Undertake a broad range of Commercial Property matters, from everyday commercial property transactions through to more complex and high-value work.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a varied caseload of commercial property transactions
  • Advising on commercial freehold and leasehold acquisitions and disposals
  • Drafting and negotiating commercial leases, licences and associated documentation
  • Acting for landlords and tenants on a range of commercial property matters
  • Handling lease renewals, assignments, variations and other landlord and tenant matters
  • Advising on property development, investment and more complex commercial transactions
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing and new clients
  • Identifying opportunities for business development and generating new instructions
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to develop cross-referral opportunities
  • Contributing to the continued growth and success of the department

The position offers considerable scope to shape your own practice and develop your career in a way that aligns with your individual ambitions.

Requirements

We are looking for a confident and experienced Commercial Property Solicitor who can operate independently and bring a strong commercial approach to their work. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualification as a Solicitor in England and Wales
  • Substantial experience handling a broad range of Commercial Property matters
  • The ability to manage a caseload independently, including more complex transactions
  • Excellent client care and relationship management skills
  • Strong business development skills and a proactive approach to generating new work
  • An existing client following or established professional referral network would be particularly advantageous
  • A commercially minded approach, with an understanding of fee earning, billing performance and profitability
  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • The ambition to develop their practice and contribute to the firm's longer-term growth

An existing following would be welcomed but is not an absolute requirement. The firm is equally interested in candidates who can demonstrate a strong track record of business development and the potential to build a substantial practice and fee income.

Remuneration & Career Progression

The firm offers a highly competitive and flexible remuneration structure, with salary determined by experience, billing performance and the commercial contribution you can bring to the business.

  • Salary ranging from £50,000 to £120,000, dependent on billings and experience
  • Billing targets set at approximately 3.5 times salary
  • Genuine scope to progress to Equity Partnership in the coming years
  • Opportunity to develop your own client base and business development strategy
  • Considerable professional autonomy and the opportunity to shape your career

For an ambitious senior lawyer, this represents an opportunity to build a substantial and rewarding practice within a firm that recognises and rewards individual contribution.

The Firm & Working Environment

Our client takes a refreshingly different approach to the traditional law firm model. Rather than imposing a rigid, prescriptive structure, the firm believes that experienced lawyers should be trusted to manage their own practices without unnecessary micromanagement. Its management philosophy is built around trust, professional autonomy and open dialogue, recognising that sustainable performance and a healthy work–life balance go hand in hand. The firm is keen to understand what its lawyers want from their careers and to create an environment in which individual ambitions can be realised.
