Role Description The Marine Purchaser is a full-time, on-site role based in London. This role involves sourcing and negotiating with suppliers, comparing quotes, and ensuring cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality and compliance with marine regulations. The Marine Purchaser will manage purchase orders, track deliveries, and coordinate closely with operations, logistics, and finance teams to ensure timely supply to vessels. Daily tasks include monitoring market prices, updating purchasing records, resolving discrepancies with suppliers, and supporting continuous improvement of procurement processes. The role also requires maintaining strong supplier relationships and contributing to risk management and cost-control initiatives.
Qualifications
- Experience in marine or shipping procurement, including bunkering and marine fuel purchasing, with strong knowledge of supply chain and logistics processes.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate prices and contract terms, manage supplier relationships, and evaluate vendor performance.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with proficiency in using spreadsheets and procurement or ERP systems to manage data and reporting.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple purchases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of marine industry standards, fuel specifications, and relevant regulations; prior bunkering experience is a strong advantage.
- Ability to work on-site in London and make informed, time-sensitive decisions to support vessel operations.
- Relevant education in business, supply chain, maritime studies, or a related field; professional procurement or maritime certifications are beneficial.
