Our sister company, Futuremotiv is looking for a Principal HV Systems Engineer - Energy Storage & Power Distribution to join their expanding Team. We are looking for a hands-on team member, who will embrace the company’s “can-do” culture and professional business environment. The candidate must be adaptable, self-motivated and technically capable.

The role will involve working directly with our customers and suppliers to develop and prototype manufacture High Voltage (HV) systems. This role will cover all aspects of HV system design, including electrical, mechanical, thermal and controls systems, and range from requirements management through design to final validation and testing.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Development of HV system architectures
  • Component selection including contactors, fuses, current sensors, busbars
  • Hands-on development of HV batteries, power distribution units and their subcomponents
  • Prototype manufacturing and rework
  • Requirements decomposition and management
  • Guide simulation team on analysis required and evaluate simulation outputs
  • Supplier and customer communication on technical issues and project management
  • Component and system level testing – Build test rigs, performing tests and analysing test results
  • Maintaining compliance with HV electrical functional safety

Technical attributes:

  • Excellent experience in automotive Powertrain / High Voltage system engineering
  • Sound engineering understanding and capability to apply basic scientific principles to real-world applications
  • Experience of Lithium-Ion battery development and/or testing
  • Familiarity with HV system safety concepts, including HVIL, MSDs, HV isolation, fusing
  • Familiarity with automotive industry processes, methods and standards
  • Experience with the systems engineering V-cycle, including requirements creation, DFMEA, DVP generation
  • Familiarity with regulations pertaining to High Voltage systems within automotive and/or other industries
  • Familiarity with HV battery thermal management concepts
  • Working knowledge of BMSs, including associated parameters and functions
  • Demonstratable knowledge of programming languages like: C, Matlab/Simulink, Python
  • Effective root cause analysis and ensure permanent corrective actions are implemented for quality issues

Additional Information: Full UK driving licence, as customer site visits may be required.
