RLC employs over 1,000 people and operates from facilities located in the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and Singapore. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the RLC team, a world leader in the aerospace industry, in their new state of the art facility in Global Point, Newtownabbey.

Main Purpose of Role: Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Maintenance Technician will provide a resource to support the efficient manufacturing of high-quality engineering parts, in a safe manner while promoting and maintaining an atmosphere of Continuous Improvement. The job includes planned maintenance, fault finding and breakdown repairs.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Diagnosis of equipment faults in electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electronic disciplines.
  • Ensure all engineering work is carried out efficiently and effectively, in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation and current Company Standards.
  • Work across mechanical and electrical trades as qualified.
  • Fault diagnosis and breakdown repairs of multi-axis milling machines.
  • Planned maintenance, modifications, installations and upgrades to plant machinery and site services.
  • Liaise with suppliers on plant or machine issues and updating of documentation/drawings as required.
  • Work with, or lead, multi-functional teams on CI initiatives using agreed techniques to improve production processes and plant design to minimise downtime and improve safety and quality performance.
  • Undertake training and up-skilling programs as directed by business needs and keep abreast of technological advancements.
  • Ensure in-depth handovers are provided to oncoming shifts.
  • Prioritise work as events occur and effect repairs where possible, seeking technical assistance from suppliers/manufacturers when necessary.
  • Manage and control sub-contractors on site, ensuring adherence to RLC (UK) Ltd Company Policy and Health & Safety procedures.
  • Continuously improve the service supplied to the business, investigating new techniques and products that can reduce downtime and costs.
  • Carry out any task or activity that supports the needs of the business.

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Time served Apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical discipline.
  • Desirable: HNC standard in relevant field.
  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations.
  • Qualification in 18th Edition of The IET Wiring Regulations.
  • Siemens PLC programming experience.
  • Ability to work safely and with little supervision.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good decision making/problem solving skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Electro/Mechanical Equipment & CNC Machine Tools.
  • Experience in problem-solving and rectification on a variety of equipment, machine tools and building systems.
  • Experience of electrical/electronic/pneumatic/hydraulic systems, coupled with a good mechanical understanding.
  • Experience of fault-finding using diagrams and diagnostic systems.
  • Must be flexible to work on a callout rota outside of normal working hours.

Hours of Work: Employees may be required to work on any systems of shift as may be required by management. The Company reserves the right to vary shift times when appropriate. Employees will be required to participate in the maintenance call out rota, which may be required on days, nights or weekend shifts.

Pay & Benefits: £19.73 plus Maintenance Callout Allowance. Holidays: 244.2 hours (or pro rata for length of service in calendar year). Defined contributions pension scheme, starting at 3% employee and 7% company contribution. Life Assurance Policy, paid at 4 times basic salary from day 1. Free on-site parking, subsidised canteen, reduced gym membership, benefits platform.
