The Environmental Officer is accountable for supporting and maintaining the organisation’s environmental management systems and ensuring compliance with applicable environmental legislation, regulatory permits, customer requirements, and internal standards. The role contributes to environmental risk management, operational efficiency, and sustainability objectives within a complex, regulated aerospace manufacturing environment, supporting both current operations and future growth.

Key Accountabilities
  • Primary owner for the formulation and execution of the Company’s environmental plans, which consist of meeting legal guidelines aimed at minimising environmental harm within manufacturing operations and in line with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 requirements to achieve Net Zero and reduce greenhouse gases.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant UK and international environmental legislation (e.g. waste, emissions, chemicals, water, and permit requirements).
  • Support regulatory inspections, audits, and reporting obligations, acting as a technical point of contact for environmental matters.
Environmental Management Systems
  • Support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS), typically aligned to ISO 14001.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, corrective action management, and management review inputs.
Environmental Awareness & Training
  • Provide practical guidance to operations, engineering, and supply chain teams on environmental requirements.
RequirementsEssential
  • Degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of UK environmental legislation and compliance requirements within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Experience supporting or operating within an ISO 14001/50001 environmental management system.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret environmental data.
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to influence operational teams.
Desirable
  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, or similarly regulated manufacturing sectors.
  • Familiarity with chemicals management (e.g. REACH), surface treatment processes, or COMAH‑related controls.
  • Membership or working towards membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IEMA).
  • Qualified to degree level in environmental science, engineering, biology or a related field.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements and engagement with external environmental authorities.
  • Demonstrable experience of analysing high volume of data and proposing practical steps and solutions in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Teams, Word and Excel.
  • Promote high performance culture.
  • Have a strong continuous improvement mindset and have proven experience of dealing with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
