Rugby League Commercial are excited to be recruiting for a Head of Communications. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to drive the profile, image, and commercial growth of Rugby League across the domestic and international game. As Head of Communications, you will provide strategic leadership to elevate Rugby League’s presence in the sports and entertainment industry.

Working closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, you will play a pivotal role in engaging audiences, enhancing brand visibility, and driving revenue growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Develop and execute an integrated communications strategy to raise the profile of Rugby League and its major events.
  2. Lead media engagement, public relations, and stakeholder communications to enhance brand reputation.
  3. Support audience growth and fan engagement across domestic and international rugby league, with a particular focus on growth markets.
  4. Deliver compelling storytelling and communication strategies to showcase Rugby League’s competitions, including Betfred Super League, Magic Weekend, Betfred Challenge Cup, Betfred Grand Final and England Rugby League.
  5. Oversee Star player and Influencer strategies to raise the profile of the sport and drive growth, audience and revenue.
  6. Oversee the England Rugby League media strategy covering Men’s, Women’s, and Wheelchair to raise the profile of England Rugby League and support the ticket sales campaign objectives of International Series.
  7. Work with RL Commercial Managing Director, Director of Marketing and Communications and Super League Clubs to consult, devise and implement game wide communication strategies.
  8. Improve Rugby League’s visibility and profile through the conception, development and delivery of communications strategies and campaigns.
  9. Work with Broadcast and Commercial partners to maximise the reach and relevance of Rugby League.
  10. Lead, motivate and mentor the Communications team which currently consists of a Communications & PR Manager and Communications Executive.
  11. Manage departmental budgets including the expenditure of any external agencies.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in a senior communications, PR, or media leadership role within sport, entertainment, or major events coupled with a deep understanding of audience engagement, media strategy, and brand positioning.

This will be in addition to the following:

  1. Experience in a Senior/ Head of Comms or PR role within the Sports or Entertainment industry.
  2. Experience in celebrity or talent PR to grow athlete’ profiles.
  3. Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver successful campaigns; particular focus on digital and influencers.
