The Sutton Venture Group is looking to appoint a Group Financial Controller, to report directly into the Chief Financial Officer, and work closely with additional Senior figures within the wider Finance and Accounts function. The role will encompass supervision of the company Management Accounts, Auditing and Budgeting processes, and will require someone qualified to ACCA, CIMA or ACA level. The group employs over 500 staff, has a current turnover of around £150m and is looking to build on that, targeting growth through expansion into International markets, with a target of £200m T/O within 3 years.

Sutton Venture Group is privately owned by the Sutton Family and has a portfolio of trading companies with offices in UK, Europe, Hong Kong, China, India and Taiwan. RKW Ltd has been trading since 1989 and is now Europe’s leading distributor and manufacturer of small domestic appliances and housewares products.

Accountabilities:
  • Reporting to the Group CFO, you will oversee Accounting Activities for all businesses, inclusive of cash flow, forecasting, balance sheet analysis and budget preparation, with the aim to improve efficiencies and inhibit cost / waste reduction.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Management and development of the financial reporting/management accounting team, ensuring robust financial controls are in place across all facets of the Group.
  • Continuing development of existing financial systems and reporting procedures.
  • Management of the budgets and forecasting.
  • Lead the annual audit process and coordinate periodic stock and debtor audit.
  • Review of Group financial performance and evaluating areas for improvement in business performance and efficiency.
  • Review of sales and gross margin reporting by category and providing insight to improve trading results.
  • Board report including commentary.
  • Ensure compliance with UK financial regulations, governance standards, and group policies.
  • Oversee delivery of fast month-end close and production of group consolidated accounts.
  • Taking an active part in the year-end accounts; and implementation and development of Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP integrated reporting system.
Skills and Desirables:
  • Previous experience in a Financial Controller / Group Financial Controller level, in a Group-structured organisation, or covering multiple business units.
  • Management of Management Accounts / Financial reporting staff.
  • People Management Skills for a finance team – working closely with those producing Management Accounts.
  • CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualified.
  • Experience of manufacturing / retail / supply chain business is advantageous.
  • Working to strict deadlines.
  • Familiar with D365 and Power BI systems.
  • A strong team focus.
  • Ability to commute to Stoke on Trent for work on a regular basis.
