An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Responsible Individual to join a new, values-led children's residential provider as they prepare to launch their first Ofsted-registered home in Birmingham. Built on strong ethics and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of children and young people, this organisation has entered the sector with one clear purpose to provide exceptional care, outstanding safeguarding, and life-changing outcomes. This is a rare opportunity to have significant influence from the very beginning, working alongside an ambitious leadership team to establish a service built on quality rather than profit.
The Role
As Responsible Individual, you will provide strategic leadership and governance across the service, ensuring the home is fully compliant with Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards, and Ofsted expectations. Working closely with the Registered Manager and Directors, you will provide support, guidance and constructive challenge while helping to establish a culture of excellence, accountability and continuous improvement.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing strategic oversight of the children's home
- Supporting and mentoring the Registered Manager through registration and beyond
- Ensuring full compliance with Ofsted regulations and Children's Homes legislation
- Overseeing safeguarding, governance and quality assurance processes
- Reviewing audits, Regulation 44 reports and quality improvement plans
- Monitoring service performance and driving continuous improvement
- Preparing the service for Ofsted inspection
- Acting as the primary liaison with Ofsted and external stakeholders
- Supporting safer recruitment, workforce development and organisational growth
- Promoting a child-centred, trauma-informed culture where young people can thrive
About You
We're looking for an experienced Responsible Individual or senior children's residential leader who has:
- Significant experience within children's residential care
- Previous experience as a Responsible Individual or senior operational leader
- Excellent knowledge of Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards
- Strong understanding of Ofsted inspection frameworks and safeguarding legislation
- Experience supporting Registered Managers to achieve positive regulatory outcomes
- Proven ability to develop high-performing, compliant services
- Excellent communication, leadership and relationship-building skills
- Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel as required
