We’re looking for a highly skilled, ambitious, and forward-thinking Senior Design Engineer to join our growing team. If you have expertise in SolidWorks and Inventor, a keen problem-solving mindset, and a passion for reinventing the future of energy, this is your chance to make a real impact.
As a senior member of our design team, you’ll lead projects that directly improve operational efficiency, emissions control, and sustainability worldwide. You’ll work across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to develop cutting-edge designs, ensuring they meet cost, quality, and time targets.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop CAD models and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks, Inventor, and AutoCAD.
- Maintain design standards and oversee the accuracy of models and drawings across the team.
- Perform design calculations, material selection, and component sizing in line with industry standards.
- Integrate emerging technologies and best practices into RJM’s design processes.
- Work closely with Projects, Process, and CFD teams to create tailored, high-performance solutions.
- Liaise with contractors during manufacturing and provide real-time problem-solving.
- Prepare status reports and manage the impact of design changes.
- Lead a team of designers on large-scale projects, guiding both in-house and external teams.
- Mentor junior engineers, shaping the next generation of top-tier talent.
- Conduct design reviews, troubleshoot issues, and uphold RJM’s quality standards.
- Conduct laser scans and use clash detection for seamless design integration.
- Generate parts lists, installation instructions, and engineering documentation.
- Support on-site measurements, diagnostics, and testing.
- Play a key role in design proposals, project planning, and sales presentations.
- Prepare design work schedules for project planning and sales efforts.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by refining processes after project completion.
What We’re Looking For
Must-Haves:
- HNC, HND, or Degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Production Engineering.
- 8+ years experience in engineering design for small and large projects.
- Expertise in SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, MS Office, and laser scanning for model generation.
- Deep understanding of structural steel, ducting, welding, fabrication, machining, castings, and piping.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven experience in leading and mentoring junior engineers.
Bonus Points for:
- Experience in the power generation sector.
- Knowledge of Quality Assurance/Quality Control processes.
- Experience with project management tools & methodologies.
- Chartered Engineer status (or actively working toward it).
- Additional language skills.
- Full UK driving license.
