We are partnering with a leading oil trading firm in London to hire an experienced Product Controller to join their high-performing finance team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the heart of a dynamic trading environment, supporting front office activity and driving accurate financial reporting and risk analysis.
The Role
As a Product Controller, you will act as a key link between trading and finance, ensuring integrity of P&L reporting, validating trading activity, and providing insightful analysis to support decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily P&L production, analysis, and reporting for oil trading desks
- Independent price verification (IPV) and fair value assessment
- Review and validation of trading activity, including new deals and amendments
- Close interaction with traders, risk, and operations teams
- Month-end close processes, including balance sheet substantiation
- Identify and implement process improvements and controls
- Support audits and regulatory reporting requirements
Requirements
- Proven experience in a Product Control role within commodities trading (oil preferred)
- Strong understanding of trading instruments (physical and derivatives)
- Solid knowledge of P&L attribution, valuation, and risk metrics
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with trading systems (e.g., Endur, RightAngle, or similar) is advantageous
- Strong analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail
- Confident communicator, able to challenge and influence front office stakeholders
