We are partnering with a well-capitalised and fast-growing energy trading platform seeking an experienced Crude Oil Trader to join its London-based team. This is an opportunity for a commercially driven individual with a strong track record in physical crude oil trading, ideally within an asset-backed environment, to play a key role in expanding market presence and optimising physical flows.
The Opportunity
- You will be responsible for originating and executing profitable crude oil trading strategies, leveraging physical assets and logistics infrastructure to optimise value across the barrel.
- The successful candidate will possess deep market knowledge, strong counterparty relationships, and experience navigating complex supply chains across global crude markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute profitable physical crude oil trading strategies across international markets.
- Optimise trading performance through an asset-backed platform, including storage, terminals, logistics, shipping, refining relationships, or supply/offtake agreements.
- Identify and originate new trading opportunities, arbitrage positions, and structured transactions.
- Manage physical positions, pricing exposure, and risk in coordination with risk, operations, and logistics teams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with producers, refiners, trading houses, NOCs, counterparties, and shipping partners.
- Analyse market fundamentals, regional crude balances, freight, and macroeconomic drivers to inform trading decisions.
- Work closely with senior leadership to contribute to strategic growth initiatives within the crude trading business.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in physical crude oil trading, with demonstrable P&L responsibility.
- Strong background in asset-backed trading environments, with understanding of storage, logistics, shipping, blending, or refining optimisation.
- Established network across key crude market participants and counterparties.
- Deep understanding of global crude flows, pricing mechanisms, benchmarks, and market dynamics.
- Commercially minded, entrepreneurial, and capable of operating in a fast-paced trading environment.
- Experience across Atlantic Basin, Middle East, African, or global crude markets is advantageous.
