Job Overview

The Sterile Services Department are appointing to a number of Sterile Service Production / Quality Supervisor posts who will have extensive knowledge and skills in decontamination processes and able to apply Quality Management System procedures and requirements of product in line with the ISO 13485 and UK MDR 2002 standard.
They will also have knowledge of all potential risk to products within a sterile services department. They will support the Decontamination Services Manager and Deputy Decontamination Manager in ensuring staff conform and adhere to the departmental Quality Management System, hospital policy and procedures, highlighting immediately any areas of concern.
The post holders will be responsible for assessing, organising, and planning the daily workflow within Sterile Service departments to ensure maximum usage of resources. They will function as a resource to support the Senior Technicians and Technicians to reduce the departmental and individual non-conformance\'s and conduct regular one-to-one meetings with staff and provide feedback to the Decontamination Services Manager.
The post holders will be expected to deputise for the Deputy Decontamination Manager in their absence with the support of the Decontamination Services Manager. Ensure the efficient and effective operation of the department.

  • To assess, plan, organise and manage own workload and the workload of others to ensure maximum utilisation of resources available on a day-to-day basis.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and co-ordination of staff within Sterile Service departments.
  • To organise and participate in the training for all staff as required from induction to on-going training to support development.
  • To investigate incident / non-conformance / customers complaints, detailing required details as per Quality Management System, taking appropriate corrective actions where necessary.
  • Reporting, and if necessary, withdrawing from service, defective medical devices, and decontamination machinery where safety, risk to product and/or efficient working order is affected.
  • Communicate immediately any decontamination machine failures to Estates Department and notify Deputy Decontamination Manager and Decontamination Services Manager.
  • To monitor on a day-to-day basis of out-of-action medical devices, unsterile packs and raw materials levels, actioning as required and report, when necessary, any concerns to the management team.
  • Highlight any unexpected changes to suppliers to the management team so they can check the product conforms to agreed purchase standards and update the technical files as required.
  • To ensure all daily periodic tests / procedures are completed and documented on relevant Quality Management System documentation or records for decontamination equipment.

Essential criteria

  • Institute Decontamination Sciences (IDSc) Technical Certificate (or comparable Level 3 NVQ) or equivalent knowledge in decontamination and quality management systems relating to Medical Devices
  • Min GCSE (or equivalent) Level qualifications

Desirable criteria

  • Working towards or willing undertake Eastwood Park DTM / WTM training to City & Guilds level qualification.
  • Management Qualification / Course completed or working towards
  • Certified Internal Auditors Training

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Minimum 3 years experience within Sterile Services. Able to demonstrate that they are fully conversant in Sterile Services decontamination process/procedures, understand product range and extensive instrument knowledge.
  • Able to perform a full range of decontamination duties and be accountable for work area within Sterile Services department or area of designated supervision.
  • Highly developed physical skills are required for the manipulation of surgical instrumentation, including the assembly / disassembly of products.
  • Good people management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan own workload - to supervises, organises and assign work, tasks & duties
  • To train less experienced / qualified staff
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints and to promote a positive attitude
  • Manage accurate completion of decontamination and Quality Management System (QMS) records in area of supervision.
