The Opportunity
We’re hiring a Senior/Lead Cloud Developer to act as the technical and operational anchor for our core platform team in Norwich. In this role, you will bridge the gap between high-level cloud architecture and people leadership. You will be responsible for the growth of your team, the evolution of our AWS ecosystem, and the strategic alignment of our platform with global business goals.
What you’ll do
- Leadership and Management: Lead and manage the cloud platform team, including recruitment, training, and performance management. Develop and implement clear team strategies aligned with business goals.
- Platform Excellence: Lead the adoption of best practices and new technologies. Lead the auditing of core cloud platform services to ensure they are secure, compliant, and reliable.
- Strategy and Collaboration: Represent the cloud platform function in engineering management and strategic planning sessions. Work closely with directors of engineering and other department heads to align strategies and ensure effective operational collaboration between teams.
- Developer Experience: Build and maintain internal developer platforms and APIs (Go/Node.js) that abstract infrastructure complexity, enabling self-service capabilities for product teams.
- Documentation and Improvement: Drive platform engineers to contribute to documentation and processes to continuously improve team efficiency. Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for the entire estate.
- Strategic Automation: Drive the transition from manual intervention to full-scale automation, including automated recovery, policy-as-code, and sophisticated deployment strategies.
- Team Growth: Successful hiring, onboarding, and retention of high-performing engineers.
- System Evolution: Consistently achieves a score of 4+ for Delivery, specifically leading complex, cross-team technical initiatives.
- Organisational Impact: Consistently achieves a score of 4+ for Communication, effectively translating complex cloud strategy to stakeholders and directors.
- Force Multiplier: Consistently achieves a score of 4+ for Sharing and Contributing, evidenced by improvements in documentation and developer velocity across the company.

What we’re looking for
- Proven Leadership: Experience managing engineering teams, including performance reviews and career development.
- Cloud Mastery: Extensive experience architecting and scaling cloud-native applications within AWS.
- Deep IaC Expertise: Mastery of Terraform and Kubernetes. You should be comfortable writing custom providers or complex modules used by multiple teams.
- Software Engineering Rigor: Strong background in Go or Node.js. You view infrastructure through the lens of a software engineer.
- Strategic Thinker: Ability to influence engineering directors and align technical roadmaps with commercial objectives.
- Reliability Mindset: Deep understanding of SRE principles and building for failure by design.
Nice to have
- Experience with Service Mesh and advanced traffic management.
- Deep expertise in Data Persistence (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB) and caching strategies at scale.
- Experience in fintech, payments, or POS domains, specifically dealing with PCI-DSS compliance.
- Active contribution to Open Source projects or a visible presence in the cloud-native community.
Location and working pattern
Norwich office; Monday to Friday, core hours between 8am and 6pm.
