About the Role
As a Civil Engineering Estimating Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the development of competitive, high‑quality bids across some of the most dynamic sectors in modern infrastructure — including onshore wind farms, battery storage facilities, ports and harbour developments, and urban streetscape enhancements. You’ll support the estimating team through all stages of bid development through to final submission.
Key Responsibilities
- Ability to input and mark-up BoQ’s and activity schedules within Estimating Software.
- Collating incoming tender information into an organised tender folder structure and updating opportunity registers to allow ease of review for Bid / No Bid meetings.
- Manage tender communications from client, consultant and subcontract, ensuring control over any tender amendments and clarifications, superseding documents, whilst maintaining a register of client clarifications / bid changes.
- Communicating any change to the relevant bid teams clearly and concisely.
- Assisting the wider bid team on administrative activities, whilst also providing estimating support with activities such as take-off, procurement, document preparation, etc.
- Review and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations, ensuring alignment with requirements for specialist components such as turbine foundations, cable routes, marine works, and energy infrastructure.
- Input into the continued development of cost databases and historic pricing records.
Skills & Qualifications
- HNC/HND or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience) is preferred but not essential.
- Understanding of civil engineering and construction principles.
- Strong organisational skills, and understanding of the importance of accurate document control, correspondence tracking, and the maintenance of registers.
- Experience in the use of Estimating software such as ConQuest.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents across a variety of civil engineering environments.
- Excellent numerical accuracy, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Competent user of Microsoft Excel and standard MS Office applications, with demonstrable experience of maintaining document organisation in folder structures.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and work to strict deadlines.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in a work winning environment ideally in an Estimating Technician role (or equivalent).
- Familiarity with UK civil engineering standards.
