The DevOps Engineer is responsible for ensuring stable, secure, and efficient software delivery on RiverStone’s Azure platform. The role will ensure the smooth operation and strategic growth of RiverStone’s IT systems to support current and future operations and designing and managing RiverStone’s cloud computing strategy. The role will design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, engineer Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC), manage Azure resource deployments and ensure operational reliability across cloud environments. This position is critical to supporting the RIVA programme and wider IT initiatives by embedding modern DevOps practices, enhancing automation, enabling cloud‑native engineering and ensuring Azure environments remain robust, compliant and aligned with organisational security standards. The role holder will leverage expertise to align IT infrastructure with our business goals, plan for future growth and adapt to new technologies.

Responsibilities

  • CI/CD Pipeline Engineering: Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
  • Infrastructure‑as‑Code & Environment Deployment: Build and manage Azure environments using Terraform.
  • Cloud Operations & Performance: Monitor, tune, and support Azure services with tools like New Relic.
  • Security, Compliance & Governance: Implement DevSecOps, RBAC, and cloud security controls with tools like Azure Policy and Entra ID.
  • Collaboration & Cross‑Team Engagement: Partner with development, security, and RIVA teams.
  • Automation & Scripting: Create scripts in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Continuous Improvement: Enhance cloud delivery processes and DevOps maturity.

Requirements

Experience

  • Educated to Degree level.
  • Experience in Azure cloud engineering and DevOps roles (3–5 years).
  • Deep knowledge of Azure services, governance, identity, networking, security.
  • CI/CD pipeline engineering (GitLab).
  • Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Scripting / automation with PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Experience supporting cloud platforms in regulated or enterprise environments.
  • Relevant certifications: AZ‑104, AZ‑400, AZ‑900, AZ‑204, AZ‑500.

Knowledge

  • Experience of previous projects moving from legacy systems to updated versions (software/hardware/integration) and able to articulate the role(s) played.
  • Migration and Integration (customers, people, products, process, systems and data).
  • Experience in developing and implementing disaster recovery plans and managing IT risks.
  • Proficiency in major cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), cloud security and data management practices.
  • Azure compute, networking, storage, identity, security.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools, such as CI/CD pipelines.
  • Cloud monitoring & observability.
  • Cloud cost management and optimisation.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership abilities with experience in guiding and mentoring technical teams.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders across different regions.
