Overview

Job Title: Support Worker

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £26,549.63 per annum plus £4,000 London Allowance (£27,722.51 achieved after 18 months successful performance in the role)

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, full time

Working Pattern: Shift work, Monday to Sunday, 8-4 and 4-10, rolling rota

Location: London Supported Services, Brixton

The difference you will make as a Support Worker

You will be working from one of our supported services providing support to customers in a variety of ways, for example:

  • Connecting them with employability coaches and other support agencies
  • Helping them manage their money, sign up for benefits, or move to a more permanent home
  • Boosting their confidence and supporting them on their journey as they rebuild their lives
  • Keeping records of everything (admin tasks)
  • Maintaining resilience, empathy and the ability to leave work at work

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead on co-produced bespoke support and move-on plans with key stakeholders where appropriate
  • Organise and carry out regular planned reviews of support and risk plans
  • Engage customers to meet agreed outcomes and develop life skills
  • Assist customers with day-to-day support and tenancy-related matters
  • Identify and promote opportunities for employment, education and training
  • Signpost to external support services and community resources
  • Support customers to be tenancy ready and financially independent
  • Support healthcare needs and contact with healthcare professionals
  • Encourage self-management of medication following established procedures
  • Lead on group work and other support initiatives
  • Ensure customer safety by following safeguarding procedures and escalating risks
  • Record and update customer information on appropriate systems

Service Delivery

  • Facilitate referrals into the service and assess potential new customers
  • Contribute to housing management service delivery, including income collection and tenancy support
  • Maintain a safe environment by reporting repairs and health and safety concerns
  • Clean and prepare rooms as appropriate
  • Resolve difficult situations sensitively, balancing individual needs with safety
  • Develop and maintain local partnerships to provide holistic support
  • Carry out day-to-day administration and operational duties
  • Travel to different properties as required; use Lone Worker system as needed
  • Follow Riverside policies and procedures; participate in meetings and supervision; undertake training

Person specification

Essential

  • Understanding of barriers faced by vulnerable and diverse groups with complex needs
  • Experience of delivering structured support and risk management
  • Team player with a caring, empathetic, flexible and resilient attitude
  • Experience in resolving incidents positively
  • Initiative and confidence to make decisions
  • Administrative and IT skills to produce reports and communications

Desirable

  • Knowledge of psychological or trauma-informed approaches
  • Experience in challenging environments with planning and prioritisation skills
  • Knowledge of current benefit systems
  • Experience in a care and support environment
