Relief Worker

Salary: £15.40 per hour

Working hours: As and when required. Shifts include day shifts 7 am‑3 pm or 2 pm‑10 pm, and night shifts 9 pm‑7 am or 9:30 pm‑7:30 am.

Location: The Stages Academy, Middlesbrough.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a high quality, customer‑oriented service, understanding that all actions should be customer‑led.
  • Assist in providing support to customers in the provision of service and supported housing, under the direction of the manager and support team.
  • Maintain and promote the dignity of all individuals, improving their health and wellbeing in a safe and appropriate environment.
  • Foster effective communication with each customer and work colleagues, adopting the approach suitable to the individual's preferred method of communication.
  • Encourage and enable customers to be as independent as possible with regards to their daily living skills, maintaining or improving their quality of life, including personal interests, access to social networks and social activities.
  • Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date records, completing them in a timely manner.
  • Recognise signs of distress in customers, assess positive ways to reduce distress, and advise the support team promptly of any concerns.
  • Coordinate with other relevant parties involved with the customer, including family, friends, GP’s and other health and social care professionals.
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times, protecting customers' personal details from unauthorised disclosure.
  • Perform general cleaning and security duties as required.
  • Undertake training and development as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience working with people from varied backgrounds and sectors of society.
  • Compassionate, patient, reliable and empathetic.
  • Strong customer focus with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexible and approachable with a positive attitude.
  • Excellent team player who can work flexibly to meet business requirements.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding adults at risk procedures.
  • Basic IT skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and willingness to learn specific IT systems used by Riverside.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a care and support environment.
  • Understanding of regulations and legislation within the housing and social care profession.
  • A relevant qualification, e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Health and Social Care.
