Your Role
If you are looking to work with the UK’s largest Mercedes‑Benz commercial vehicle dealership, please consider Rygor Service Solutions, part of the Rygor Group. We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU) Manager who leads by example and inspires a team. The role focuses on creating a positive working atmosphere, driving the team performance, and ensuring the department achieves its business goals.
Day to day, you will:
- Plan and control workforce resource availability to meet customers’ fleet demands.
- Manage and control labour costs, including use of third parties.
- Comply with safety audits and manage the working code of practice for contractors.
- Plan and optimize facilities, bays, machines, tools, diagnosis installations, workplace design and processes.
- Prepare planning and calculations for investments in workshops, facilities and HR, in partnership with Rygor management.
- Review and adjust workshop service prices in agreement with management.
- Measure and report on daily workshop performance across retail sales, warranty and internal contracts.
- Manage WIP and cash control.
- Recruit new staff and carry out effective induction.
- Coach, motivate and retain high‑quality team members.
- Define target agreements with employees and review target achievement.
Skills & Behaviours Required
Qualifications – Level 3 NVQ, City and Guilds or IMI qualification in Vehicle Repair and Maintenance. Previous experience in a similar role and industry is preferred.
Resilience – Strong coping skills and the ability to draw on them when faced with challenges.
Communication – Excellent verbal and written communication; first point of contact for the team and a source of inspiration.
Motivation – Self‑motivated and a key part of the team, driving personal and team success.
Time Management – Ability to prioritise and complete tasks within timeframes to meet customer demands and maintain workshop efficiency.
