Contract: My client is looking for a long-term temporary staff member to start as soon as possible. This role is initially a long-term temporary contract however there could be a potential for this role to become a permanent.

Definition of job role – This role forms part of the Procurement Team, who are responsible for the full supply chain function ensuring Customer’s requirements are processed accurately, efficiently and a high level of customer service is achieved. As a material planner; you will be responsible for organising and overseeing the flow of equipment and materials within the business. To ensure there’s an uninterrupted supply of raw materials, parts and assembly items to keep operations running smoothly.

Overall purpose of the Role: To ensure that the supply of materials meet the production schedule and minimum stock levels to ensure operational and production continuity. Able to deliver efficient, effective and flexible solutions to meet production requirements. Maintains strong relationships both internally and externally to ensure supply of materials meets requirements. Work under general supervision, reviewed by Management. Decisions and results have an impact on the function and their success., * Evaluate MRP to co-ordinate cost effective purchasing at minimal risk.

  • Check MRP and raise any Sub Con Works Orders.

  • Ensure all order confirmations are received and processed in the set two-week target.

  • Review Exceptions via MRP to determine inbound purchases at risk.

  • Notify Planning Team purchases at risk where applicable

  • Mitigate and reduce risk to priority purchases with suppliers.

  • Communicate all price of the price book and lead time variations to the Procurement Team.

  • Attend relevant Demand, Planning and Marketing meetings to ensure MRP can be evaluated correctly.

  • Follow strategy of purchase agreements or Implemented by Procurement team.

  • Review and action any invoice queries provided by Finance.

  • Co-ordinate Purchase Returns and Replacement Purchase Orders instructed by the Procurement Team.

  • Evaluate daily lab stock requests to ensure R&D have sufficient material stock (raw material purchasing only)

  • Evaluate MRP Reports in conjunction with pilot batch requirements and co-ordinate sample requests and delivery (raw material purchasing only).

  • Communicate effectively and positively with all teams, colleagues and managers.

  • Good communicator with the ability to form and maintain good relationships internally and externally.

  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills

  • Commercial and financial awareness with a full understanding of how failure impacts the costs, production, manufacture and customer order fulfilment

  • Results orientated and organised with the ability to plan and deliver against deadlines

  • Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving skills

  • Project management skills

  • Excellent attention to detail skills

Ideal Qualifications and Experience Levels:

  • CIPS/ Procurement certification or relevant experience.

  • Previous experience of materials planning ideally in the manufacturing environment

  • Good understanding of supply chain processes and their interdependencies

  • Understanding of supplier relationships and some experience of working with suppliers

  • Strong IT systems knowledge and skills including advanced Excel skills

  • Knowledge of lean techniques may be advantageous
