The Medical Assistant is responsible for a variety of patient care, technical, and clerical related functions under the direct supervision of the physician and practice manager. They are responsible for the clinic patient flow by assisting members of the patient care team and providing a wide range of health care services while supporting quality and safe care. May float to other practices as needed to support operational needs.

What You Will Do

  • Maintains excellent clinical competency by adhering to the standard clinical expectations for Riverside Medical Group. This includes updating, verifying, and maintaining patient records by properly interviewing the patient and confirming purpose of visit.
  • Prepares patient for examination by obtaining vital signs proficiently (including manual vital signs when mechanical devices are not available).
  • Prepare and sanitize exam rooms before and after patient appointments.
  • Administer medications and vaccines under the supervision of a physician.
  • Assists with processing prescription refill requests for approval and forwarding to pharmacies.
  • Maintains medical inventory of supplies and keeps exam rooms stocked appropriately.
  • Keeps any necessary equipment in operating order and facilitates preventive maintenance when needed.
  • Ensures compliance with healthcare regulations with scope of practice, HIPAA, and OSHA standards.
  • Completes all required competencies and education to maintain skill level to provide safe patient care.
  • Acts as a liaison between physician and patient, by providing support and comfort to patients and families during clinic visits and procedures as needed, including chaperoning during sensitive examinations.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service to include providing timely patient response and follow up by phone and electronic means.
  • Manages patient expectations with clear explanations (i.e., informing patients about delays as appropriate) and effectively manages the providers' patient schedules.
  • Assists patients with providing access to care with appointments, referrals, and providing necessary information.
  • Assists with patient education per protocol and direct provider instruction to include directions in the after-visit summary within the electronic medical record.
  • Exhibits knowledge of lab procedures to include specimen collection, phlebotomy, point of care testing, and use of ABN’s (if applicable in hired practice).
  • Properly processes, packages, and sends specimens to correct laboratory. Obtains preauthorization when needed.
  • Proficient in managing point of care logs and documenting point of care testing accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Follows insurance carrier guidelines and Medicare regulations.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of ICD9 and CPT coding and seeks assistance as needed.
  • Obtains prior authorizations when needed.
  • Schedules tests and specialist visits within network limitations.
  • Supports productivity goals to maximize use of facility resources to meet patient demand.
  • Maximizes physician visits so that productivity targets are met.
  • Assists and contributes to meet quality measures for the organization.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED (Required), Program Graduate, Medical Assistant (Required)
  • Experience: 1 year Clinical experience (Preferred)
  • Licenses and Certifications: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Upon Hire (Required) or CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire (Required) or CCMA - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Upon Hire (Required) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) Upon Hire (Required) or Medical Assistant - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Upon Hire (Required) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Upon Hire (Required) or Medical Assistant (MA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) Upon Hire (Required)
