Due to our continual growth, we are looking to appoint a full time Landfill Technician, at our depot in Garvagh.
Responsibilities:- Operating heavy plant equipment such as Digger, Dozers, Bomag Compactor, Excavators, Dump trucks and other related equipment necessary to facilitate the day‑to‑day operations at the landfill site.
- Perform duties to dispose of non‑combustible/non‑recyclable waste materials at the landfill site.
- Spread and compact layers of waste.
- Observe waste to identify hazardous material or substances excluded from deposit at the landfill site and report to the Landfill manager.
- Perform routine checks on machines to ensure machines are in proper working order and report immediately any issues to Landfill Manager.
- Where applicable, provide minimal maintenance of various landfill equipment/machines.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and company obligations, & Health & Safety standards are maintained at all times to a high standard.
- Paperwork – register, log and report on waste received at landfill on all relevant IT software as applicable.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Ensure all Machines on site comply with the relevant H&S standards and company standard operating procedures.
- Always apply Manual Handling techniques.
- Any other reasonable duties as delegated by the Landfill Manager.
- Take responsibility for the Health and Safety of yourself and others whilst at work and to comply with the Company’s policies and legislation.
- Support Company Initiatives and demonstrate Company Values.
- To comply with all legal, regulatory and statutory obligations applicable to the role.
- Participate in training and personal development activities, as required.
- Be flexible in undertaking the duties and responsibilities attached to your role.
- Must have a valid licence/certificate and have at least 2 years’ experience of operating one of the following machines: Digger, Dozers, Bomag Compactor, Excavators, Dump truck.
- Confident operating machinery on steep flanks.
- Good organisational skills.
- Good communication skills – both written and verbal.
- IT Skills - a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word.
- Ability to work well on own initiative.
- Be self‑motivated.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Flexible approach to work hours.
- Willing to work in all weather conditions.
- Willing to work under pressure in a busy environment.
- Previous experience operating machines within a landfill site.
- Experience using GPS.
