Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full-time)

Location: Multi-site delivery across Riverlution operational areas (field-based and classroom-based)

Role Overview

The Apprenticeship Tutor role is responsible for the delivery, assessment, and support of apprenticeship programmes alongside the delivery of LANTRA-accredited qualifications and other externally funded training. The post holder will deliver high-quality teaching and assessment to apprentices and adult learners across environmental, land-based and stewardship-related subjects, supporting learners to achieve their qualifications while ensuring compliance with awarding body, apprenticeship, and quality assurance requirements. This role is a mix of office-based and field-based, with associated classroom delivery, learner reviews, and assessment activity. The tutor will work closely with the Training Manager, Training Administrator and other tutors to ensure consistent, high-quality provision across all programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apprenticeship Delivery & Assessment
    • Deliver teaching and learning across apprenticeship standards relevant to Riverlution’s provision, using engaging, inclusive, and learner-centred approaches.
    • Assess apprentices against approved standards, qualifications, and units, including workplace evidence, practical observations, professional discussions, and written work.
    • Support apprentices to progress through their programme, including gateway readiness and preparation for End Point Assessment (EPA) where required.
    • Complete progress reviews, maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and provide timely, constructive feedback to learners.
  • LANTRA & Accredited Qualifications
    • Deliver LANTRA-accredited qualifications and other vocational awards in line with awarding body requirements.
    • Ensure all LANTRA training and assessment is delivered compliantly, maintaining accurate records, assessments, and certification paperwork.
    • Carry out learner assessments and quality checks in line with LANTRA and internal quality assurance procedures.
    • Maintain personal competence, CPD, and occupational currency relevant to LANTRA qualifications delivered.
  • Teaching & Learning
    • Plan and deliver sessions covering environmental management, land-based skills, conservation, health & safety, and practical fieldwork (as appropriate to programmes).
    • Lead practical workdays, site visits, and hands-on activities, ensuring learning outcomes are met safely and effectively.
    • Adapt delivery to meet the needs of individual learners, including those with additional learning needs or disabilities.
    • Use a range of teaching and assessment methods to suit different learning styles and abilities.
  • Health, Safety & Safeguarding
    • Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks, and safety inductions for learners.
    • Ensure compliance with all health & safety legislation, policies, risk assessments, and method statements.
    • Actively promote safe working practices during all training and assessment activities.
    • Report incidents, near misses, and hazards promptly and follow organisational reporting procedures.
  • Quality, Compliance & Administration
    • Complete and maintain accurate learner documentation, registers, assessments, reviews, and evidence portfolios.
    • Comply with apprenticeship funding rules, awarding body requirements, and internal quality assurance processes (e.g. RARPA where applicable).
    • Participate in internal and external audits, standardisation, and quality reviews.
    • Meet deadlines and contribute to continuous improvement of training delivery and learner experience.
  • Teamwork & Communication
    • Work collaboratively with Training Manager, Training Administrator and other tutors.
    • Communicate effectively with employers, learners, colleagues, and external partners.
    • Support colleagues, staff, and volunteers through mentoring and sharing best practice where appropriate.
    • Represent Riverlution professionally with stakeholders and awarding bodies.

Additional Information

Regular travel to field sites and learner workplaces is required. Occasional overnight stays, evening, or weekend work may be necessary to meet delivery needs. Other duties appropriate to the role may be required.

Person Specification

  • Competence and/or qualification to deliver LANTRA-accredited qualifications (Brush cutter, variety of Sprayer and other qualifications as required) (or willingness to achieve promptly).
  • Experience delivering and assessing apprenticeships and/or vocational qualifications.
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance and compliance in post-16 or adult education.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Relevant first aid and health & safety certification appropriate to field delivery.
