As our Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Advisor, you'll help shape Riverford's future. Riverford's range of H&S risks is extensive, reflecting the breadth of our business. For example, we have production facilities, farms, a restaurant, public events, a large fleet of vehicles and numerous delivery hubs across England and Wales. We are now looking for an additional experienced H&S practitioner to support our Health and Safety Manager.

The challenge now is to further develop and embed a fully integrated approach across Health, Safety, Environment, Food Safety and Quality. You will support the continued development, implementation and maintenance of this integrated Management System, ensuring it remains practical, aligned to operational needs and drives continuous improvement. This role is primarily HSE-focused, with integrated FSQ responsibilities, supporting a joined-up approach to compliance and performance.

Location: Sacrewell Farm, Peterborough, PE8 6HJ

Hours: 40 hours per week, usually Monday to Friday

Skills and Experiences:

  • At least 3 years relevant experience of health and safety in a similar advisory role within a multi-site, diverse organisation. Experience gained in a production environment is desirable.
  • Experience of building effective working relationships with managers and stakeholders, providing practical guidance, challenge and support to improve standards and accountability.
  • Experienced and skilled at advising, coaching, communicating and influencing at all levels within an organisation, with experience of supporting managers across a multi-site business and driving health and safety change.
  • Experience of providing pragmatic environmental management advice, supporting compliance, continuous improvement and good operational practice across a diverse business.
  • Good IT skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Possess a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent level 6 H&S qualification.
  • Desirable - NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent fire safety qualification.
  • Desirable - Environmental qualification or membership, such as NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate or IEMA, or equivalent practical experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of risk management, health and safety legislation, codes of practice and their pragmatic application.
  • Experience of supporting and improving health, safety and environmental management systems, including monitoring performance, identifying trends and driving continuous improvement.
  • Good investigative, analytical and report writing skills.
  • Experience of supporting occupational health and wellbeing matters in partnership with managers and People teams, including contributing to practical risk reduction and safe ways of working.
  • Experience of supporting emergency preparedness and response arrangements, with an understanding of business continuity principles within an operational environment.
  • Experience of working with contractors and third parties, including reviewing arrangements, monitoring standards on site and providing clear feedback to responsible managers.
  • Able to interpret incident, audit and performance data, identify themes and present clear findings and recommendations to managers.
  • A high standard of written English, presenting information in a clear and logical format, i.e. audit reports, policies, guidance documents.
  • Good presentation skills and experience of developing and delivering health and safety training. A training qualification is desirable.
  • Experience of reviewing and auditing health and safety arrangements.
  • A valid driving licence and willingness to regularly travel to other Riverford sites e.g. Wash farm, Devon, with overnight stays as necessary. A hire car will be provided.
