River is entering an exciting new chapter. With our move into a brand-new South London office, we're expanding our fundraising team and looking for ambitious, confident individuals who want to build a meaningful career in charity fundraising through live events and face-to-face public engagement.

At River, we specialise in face-to-face fundraising and supporter acquisition, working with national charities and non-profit organisations through high-footfall promotional events, pop-up campaigns, exhibitions and retail activations. We help charities increase awareness, secure long-term supporters and generate vital funding for important causes, while giving our team the opportunity to develop valuable communication, fundraising and leadership skills in a supportive, fast-paced environment. This is not a door-to-door role. All fundraising campaigns take place at organised event locations. No previous fundraising or sales experience is required. We provide full training from day one and promote based on performance, attitude and development.

The Role

As a Charity Fundraiser / Events Fundraising Assistant, you'll be at the forefront of our live fundraising campaigns, speaking directly with members of the public, representing respected charities and encouraging people to become long-term supporters through regular giving. Your primary focus will be fundraising and supporter engagement, building rapport with people, explaining the charity's mission, and helping individuals sign up with confidence and clarity. As you develop within the business, you'll also gain exposure to the operational side of campaigns, including event planning, fundraising logistics, team coordination and campaign set-up, providing a clear pathway into leadership and management.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Representing national charities and non-profit organisations at fundraising events and awareness campaigns
  • Speaking confidently with members of the public and securing new long-term supporters
  • Delivering engaging presentations about charitable causes and community initiatives
  • Building genuine relationships with supporters and creating positive fundraising experiences
  • Working towards individual and team fundraising targets
  • Working alongside experienced fundraising professionals and mentors
  • Participating in daily coaching sessions and ongoing development
  • Learning communication techniques, fundraising psychology, objection handling and public engagement skills
  • Supporting campaign operations and event organisation as you progress
  • Assisting with event planning, logistics and campaign set-up when moving into leadership responsibilities
  • Developing transferable skills across fundraising, marketing, communications, team leadership and campaign management

What We're Looking For

We're far more interested in mindset than previous experience. You could be a great fit if you are:

  • Confident and enjoy speaking with new people
  • Passionate about making a positive impact
  • Motivated by targets and personal achievement
  • Resilient and eager to learn
  • Professional and reliable
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Looking for long-term career progression
  • Willing to take ownership of your development

Previous experience in fundraising, charity work, retail, hospitality, customer service, events, promotions, marketing or sales is beneficial but not essential.

What River Offers

  • Base pay plus uncapped performance-based commission
  • Full fundraising training from day one
  • Daily coaching and one-to-one mentorship
  • Clear progression into Team Leader, Assistant Manager and Management positions
  • Leadership development programme
  • Experience across fundraising, supporter acquisition, event marketing and campaign management
  • Opportunities to learn event planning, campaign coordination and operational management as you progress
  • Modern South London office
  • Supportive, ambitious team culture
  • Team incentives, recognition programmes and travel opportunities

Career Progression

At River, we promote from within. Many of our managers began in this role before progressing into leadership positions where they now:

  • Lead and develop fundraising teams
  • Manage live charity fundraising campaigns
  • Organise event logistics and campaign set-up
  • Coordinate fundraising performance
  • Recruit and train new team members
  • Build relationships with charity partners
  • Support campaign growth and regional expansion

Your progression is based on your performance, development and commitment - not simply how long you've been with the business.

Why Join River?

We're building more than a fundraising team - we're building future leaders. If you're looking for a career where you'll develop confidence, communication skills, commercial awareness and leadership experience while helping charities generate vital funding, River offers genuine progression and continuous support.
