Context
We have a small Communications team within the People function. It leads on all internal communications, as well as external employer brand communications to support recruitment. We work closely with in‑house teams like Marketing, Brand & Customer and Technology to deliver communications that are aligned to company strategy, support business priorities and engage our target audiences.
We’re looking for a Content and Channels Manager to support both internal and external communications. They will need to have experience developing content for a variety of formats – written, digital, in‑person – and cover a wide range of topics across all aspects of our business. They will be naturally curious and personable, getting out and understanding the business to develop content that brings our strategy and employer brand to life. Collaboration is key to success in this role, but they will need to be able to work independently.
Role Purpose
The Content and Channels Manager develops and delivers quality, on‑brand content across multiple internal and external channels. They ensure communications are aligned to business strategy and designed to drive engagement with colleagues and prospective colleagues. Working with stakeholders across the business, this role combines strategic thinking with hands‑on content creation and channel management.

- Build a strong understanding of business strategy, audiences and ways of working to identify communication opportunities and create clear, compelling communications.
- Develop and implement the external employer brand content strategy, aligned to business strategy and current needs, and help attract top talent.
- Support the delivery of the internal communications strategy.
- Content
- Produce quality written and digital content for a range of channels, ensuring all content is on‑brand and aligned to River Island’s style guidelines.
- Develop and deliver content that:
- Tells our employer brand story and supports us to engage and retain top talent.
- Engages our people in our business strategy and priorities, setting out a clear and consistent purpose to drive performance.
- Supports the smooth operation of our business day‑to‑day.
- Re‑purpose content to fit different audiences and/or channels, driving maximum value from our communications.
- Manage the day‑to‑day delivery of communications channels, ensuring they are accessible, user‑friendly and effective.
- Use formal and informal measurement to evaluate channel performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Contribute to and maintain a communications calendar to support effective planning and alignment across internal and external communications.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships across the business, supporting them to define communication requirements and provide advice.
- Regularly visit stores and other workplaces to maintain a good understanding of the business, gather insight and create people‑centred content.
- Work collaboratively with other teams to deliver joined‑up internal and external communications, including Recruitment, Marketing and Retail Ops functions.
Essential Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes
- Experience developing and delivering internal communications.
- Experience producing content for a variety of mediums (e.g. intranet, town halls) and formats (e.g. written, video), with limited budget.
- Experience creating and editing videos on personal devices (e.g. mobile).
- Experience using graphic design software and tools (e.g. Canva).
- Ability to successfully build and manage stakeholder relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working in a changing environment and/or with ambiguity.
- Comfortable working independently, including visiting other locations to generate content.
- Good organisational, planning and time‑management skills.
- Strong attention to detail.

- Experience managing intranets and/or other digital channels.
- Experience using new and innovative communication channels.
