This role will help shape and define the message that sets the tone for major brand moments, through concepting and impactful copy. Responsible for the delivery of engaging and persuasive copy for River Island, which champions the brand tone of voice and ensures all language entertains and inspires River Island customers. Working cross‑functionally, it requires both a marketing and publishing mindset, with a keen attention to detail.
Key Accountabilities
- Write, edit and proof engaging multichannel copy for brand and promotional campaigns and BAU.
- Ensure campaign message, product USPs and customer mindset are at the forefront of communications.
- Contribute to creative concepts and witty, original and eye‑catching straplines that define campaigns, enhance creative and build brand love.
- Keep abreast of competitor research and cultivate a deep understanding of the RI brand.
- Contribute to supporting campaign copy packs for cross‑channel use.
- Drive the brand tone of voice across all channels, ensuring accuracy, clear messaging and brand recognition.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with a diverse mix of teams and work dynamically to adapt thinking across different channels.
- Take time to understand briefs, context and objectives of the copy before writing it.
- Deliver best practice in grammar, messaging and writing style.
- Support the Senior Copywriter and Senior Editorial Lead in proofreading communications across channels in advance of live dates.
- Respond to each new brief with creative freshness and compelling ideas, aiming to elevate River Island’s presence in copy executions.
- Drive culture through highly relevant and thoughtful content, seeking out trends and ideas that are interesting to the River Island audiences.
- Exercise a strong understanding of customer journeys and SEO best practice in all activity.
- Ensure fellow copywriters feel inspired and up to date with the latest in brand tone and delivery.
- Engage positively in sharing and responding to feedback.
- Pitch and write blog content, reacting quickly to trends and turning ideas into engaging, SEO‑friendly posts that align with the brand voice.
About you
- Must have a portfolio of compelling work that showcases both ideation and writing experience.
- Strong editing and writing skills, with a passion for uncovering and developing unique story angles.
- Hold a customer‑centric mindset.
- The ability to break down concepts and deliver storytelling both internally and for the brand’s customers – deep questioning of the brief, skilful editing and simplification of message.
- Highly collaborative and a strong communicator, able to work cross‑functionally with key stakeholders.
