Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Marine Engineer role based around London/Reading/Oxford.

The Marine Engineer will conduct routine and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair on a range of marine and canal-going vessels and equipment.

Responsibilities include inspecting mechanical and electrical systems, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring all work complies with relevant maritime safety and regulatory standards.

The role involves responding to breakdowns, supporting rescue operations, maintaining accurate service records, and collaborating with operations staff and external partners to keep vessels safe and operational.

The Marine Engineer will also contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance procedures and provide technical guidance to colleagues when required.

Qualifications

  • Background in the marine industry or maritime sector, including experience with canals, inland waterways, or related marine operations.
  • Demonstrated marine engineering skills, with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, propulsion, electrical, and auxiliary systems.
  • Experience with maintenance and repair practices for marine vessels, engines, and associated equipment.
  • Relevant exposure to Navy or similar disciplined marine environments, with strong awareness of safety and operational procedures.
  • Vocational or academic qualification in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Ability to work on-site in London, including occasional work outside standard hours in response to urgent incidents.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of applicable maritime safety regulations and good practice; appropriate professional certifications are an advantage.
