ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

Start Date: December 2025

River Arts Club is a boutique sanctuary on the Thames, shaped by the principles of simplicity and renewal. We offer warm, highly personal hospitality, thoughtful F&B, curated retreats, and restful spaces, so guests can slow down, reconnect, and leave restored. Our Journal of Rituals captures this spirit with twelve time-honoured, research-informed practices guests can adopt at their own pace, building calm, resilience, and vitality. We’re also nurturing a purpose-led community, offering space and support for social entrepreneurs and creative practitioners.

As a hands-on operator and natural host, you’ll partner with the General Manager on daily operations while advancing strategic projects that elevate our brand, community, and guest experience. You’ll set the pace on service, coach the team, hold space for our community, and embed SOPs that keep standards obsessively high.

Our founder has published kintsugi, a journal of rituals – a practical guide to twelve simple practices that anchor our ethos of calm, restorative hospitality. This is the vision underpinning this space. We weave these rituals into stays, retreats, and team rhythms, and in this role you’ll help bring that spirit to life day to day.

Key Responsibilities

Operational (day-to-day)

  • Food & Beverage oversight: Support breakfast service and all F&B touchpoints. Maintain stock, place orders, manage suppliers, ensure presentation/quality, and resolve guest feedback promptly.
  • Front desk & guest relations: Lead arrivals/departures, reservations, phones and inboxes; deliver a warm, personalised front-of-house experience; handle complaints, special requests and VIP notes with pace and empathy.
  • Rooms & housekeeping standards: Conduct room and common-area inspections; coordinate housekeeping schedules; manage amenities and linen/par levels; ensure brand standards are met or exceeded.
  • Common areas & presentation: Pitch in on tidying and upkeep when needed; ensure all public spaces remain immaculate and on-brand.
  • Retreats & wellness execution: Coordinate logistics, set-ups and service flow for retreats and wellness programmes; liaise with practitioners to deliver seamless guest experiences.
  • Duty management & compliance: Serve as Duty Manager; uphold H&S, Food Safety, Fire, Licensing and GDPR procedures; maintain incident logs and training records.

Strategic (growth & brand)

  • Dynamic pricing & revenue tracking: Own day-to-day pricing in PriceLabs/Cloudbeds; monitor pick-up, pace local demand/compset; adjust and manage promotions; produce a weekly performance dashboard.
  • Cost control of hotel operations: Keep operating costs on target— F&B COGS/GP%, labour %, utilities, linens/laundry, amenities and contractor spend. Run monthly stock counts, wastage logs and invoice checks; surface savings without compromising standards.
  • SOP development: Create, refine, and embed SOPs across FOH, Housekeeping, and F&B to drive consistency, efficiency, and training quality.
  • Brand & marketing support: Help craft distinctive guest experiences and seasonal moments; support events/retreat calendars; collaborate on content and partnerships that attract a discerning clientele.
  • Build supplier & partner relationships: Negotiate quality, price, and service; champion local, sustainable, and distinctive partners that elevate the guest experience.
  • Retreats & wellness growth: Research opportunities, develop packages, form partnerships, and build programming that differentiates River Arts Club in the boutique market.

Profile Ideal Candidates

  • Motivated, kind human who believes guest value drives a boutique hotel’s success
  • Experience in hospitality or degree in Hospitality Management (both welcome)
  • Genuine interest in wellbeing and slow living; you resonate with our Journal of Rituals and enjoy simple practices (tea rituals, mindful walks, breathwork)
  • Organised and detail-aware with clear follow-through
  • Leads by example – calm, accountable, and supportive
  • Team-spirited collaborator who communicates warmly and pitches in wherever needed
