Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground. We design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, whilst vertically integrating with off‑grid DC solar and the European gas‑grid. We’ve recently deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to 1000x this scale in the next 2 years. Rivan is bottlenecked by experimental throughput and insight.
We need someone who can own experiments end‑to‑end, design rigs, run tests, debug issues, and extract clear conclusions from messy data. You won’t just run experiments. You will decide what to test, how to test it, and how to improve the system.
Role- Own the design, build and operation of lab and bench‑scale rigs
- Plan and execute experimental campaigns to answer key engineering questions
- Debug issues with rigs, instrumentation and data quality
- Improve test methods to increase reliability and throughput
- Analyse data and communicate clear, actionable conclusions
- Work closely with modelling and design teams to guide decisions
- Take ownership of a testing workstream (e.g. carbonation, calcination)
- Proven experience building or modifying experimental rigs
- Strong hands‑on ability (mechanical, instrumentation, troubleshooting)
- Ability to plan and execute experiments independently
- Structured debugging approach to inconsistent data
- Bias toward action and iteration
- Gas‑solid systems or reaction engineering
- Basic coding/data analysis (Python/MATLAB/Excel)
- £45 – 65k Salary depending on experience
- Share options as part of the early team
- In‑person work at our HQ in Bermondsey, South‑East London – flexibility considered based on personal circumstances
- Extensive relocation support, including £6,000 per year extra to live close to our HQ
- Private health insurance
- Unlimited time off
