Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground.
We’ve design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, vertically integrating with off-grid DC solar and the European gas-grid. We\’ve recently deployed the UK\’s largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to 1000x this scale in the next 2 years.
We’re looking for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to bring our designs to life and help integrate our reactor and electrolyser systems. We have large amounts of condensing, cooling, plumbing, and system integration to do and need curiosity and urgency to battle the thermodynamics that are working against us to wrestle H2 and CO2 into formation.
We have one single goal – reduce the levalised cost of methane to the point drilling stops and companies mine the sky for carbon. If you urge to make a difference in the real-world, surrounded by people you admire doing great work with intensity, this is for you.
The role:
- Design and build test rigs to validate key assumptions
- Gas composition and condensing
- Stack thermal monitoring and control (electrolyte, electrodes, gasketing)
- Vapour separation design and validation
- Gasket and cell design
- Laser cutting prototypes
- Test different concepts across materials, morphology
- CFD analysis
- DC solar coupling relative to stack and cell performance
- Execute test plan
- Performance curves
- Longevity testing
- Thermal testing
Core skills:
- 1-2+ years professional experience
- Bachelor’s or Masters in mechanical/aero or related field
- Fundamental thermofluids understanding, heat and mass transfer, chemical kinetics
- Simulation/analytical modelling competency
- Test setup design, running of experiments and data analysis
Specifics:
- £40-50k Salary depending on experience
- Significant share options as part of the early team
- In-person work at our HQ in Bermondsey, South-East London
