About us

Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry; we aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping CO2 locked underground. We’ve designed and manufactured modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, vertically integrating with off-grid DC solar and the European gas-grid. We’ve recently deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to 1000x this scale in the next 2 years.

The role

Help us design, build and execute tests to validate engineering assumptions across fluids, thermals or electrical systems. This requires great practical capability in these areas:

  • Plumbing
  • Wiring
  • Fabrication (Welding etc)
  • Machining
  • Mechanic work

Work straight from engineering drawings, with particular attention to tolerances. This includes working from high level design description (sketch, CAD model, description of work), requiring little input after initial description. Execute all the above with sound safety experience. Help us keep the workshop clean and in order - with all tooling clean, tidy, ready to use, any parts in-stock or ordered. This includes equipment maintenance. Maintain our (growing) range of heavy machinery, including laser cutters, water-jet cutters, drills, lathes, mills, and welding equipment. Keep a list of spares, jigs and material to use across all machinery.

Other areas we’re looking for

We’re after a technician to propose solutions rather than just follow instructions. We need high agency and experience to make this work. We don’t want technicians at Rivan to just be “executioners”. We’re after experienced technicians that are a source of knowledge and help guide on issues rather than just doing tasks. We’d like this role to take the lead on coordinating with external contractors to implement solutions. This might be anything from air extraction to compressors.

Core skills

  • 4-5 years professional experience in relevant environment (workshop, factory, or laboratory)
  • Practical examples of hands-on project builds
  • Engineering degree or background (apprenticeship or other)
  • Personal projects! What have you tinkered or built yourself?

Specifics

  • £50-60k salary depending on experience
  • In-person work at our HQ in Bermondsey, South London
  • Extensive relocation support, including £6000 per year extra to live close to our HQ
  • Unlimited time-off
