CNC Machinist

CNC Machinist

Full-Time On-site
R

We have “increase iteration speed or die” up on the wall at our HQ. The success of Rivan is really down to the speed at which we can iterate through bad designs to something that has staying power. Since information is the bottleneck, our ability to quickly build everything from test-rigs to full-scale assemblies is the difference between life and death.

We’re looking for a Machinist to supercharge our expansion, as part of an incredible venture into the manufacturing of systems that will change the world! We are kitting out a new factory with brand new, high end machinery, and need someone outstanding to run them.

If you love building things, have an attention to detail, feel shackled where you currently work, or want to change the world - come and help us at Rivan!

The role:

Machine Operation:

  • Manual Mills and Lathes
  • CNC Mills and Lathes (Hurco WinMax preferable)
  • CAM software set-up and execution
  • Toolpath verification and dry running discipline
  • General machine longevity checks and maintenance
  • Experience operating CNC laser cutters desirable
  • Pipe bending machine operation is also a bonus

Machining:

  • Machining a variety of different materials including alloy steels, and plastics
  • Workholding setup
  • Datum setting and work offsets
  • Understanding of cutting tool selection
  • Understanding of feeds, speeds, and cutting rates
  • Surface finishing understanding

Inspection:

  • Takes ownership of quality, not expecting others to flag
  • Experienced using micrometer, bore gauges, pin gauges, dial test indicators, digital vernier calipers and other metrology tools
  • Ability to re-work components

Other areas we’re looking for:

  • We need someone who is flexible and able to get involved away from the machines when needed, assembling and building equipment.
  • We’re after someone who proposes solutions rather than just follows instructions. We need high agency and experience to make this work.
  • We don’t want machinists at Rivan to just be “executioners”. We’re after experienced machinists that are a source of knowledge and help guide on issues rather than just doing tasks.
  • We’d like this role to take the lead on coordinating with external contractors to implement solutions. This might be anything from air extraction to compressors.

Core skills:

  • 4-5 years professional experience in relevant environment (workshop, factory, or laboratory)
  • Practical examples of hands-on project builds
  • Engineering background (apprenticeship or other)
  • Personal projects! What have you tinkered or built yourself?

Specifics:

  • £40-60k salary depending on experience
  • In-person work at our HQ in Bermondsey, South London
  • Extensive relocation support, including £6000 per year extra to live close to our HQ
  • Private health insurance
  • Unlimited time-off

We encourage exceptional applicants from all backgrounds to apply for this role, even if they do not meet all the requirements listed.
